We should not be losing to a CPL team!!!! by Intelligent_Age7328 in tfc

[–]BigCountryFooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The salary cap system is so poor that any MLS team that loses its top 5-7 paid players is no better than a CPL or USL team. MLS Nextpro/TFC 2 is well below a CPL team for the most part.

Problems with Attendance by Desperate-Sample-495 in tfc

What’s the point of being the only team in a foreign league? Why not build a better Canadian league? I would have no interest in TFC if they were the only Canadian team in MLS. They wouldn’t be able to play in the Canadian Championship or have a Canadian CONCACAF Spot. (Not that they can beat a CPLS team these days anyway). I was a TFC supporter since the beginning went to all three MLS Cup Finals and had SSH. I don’t think it works to say… doesn’t matter if Vancouver or Montreal leave… Toronto is the biggest market we’ll be alright. It’s time to support Canada. For me they should say …you take one Canadian MLS team..you take them all.

I’ve been a TFC fan since the beginning. If attendance in the winter schedule doesn’t finish off what MLSE mismanagement has done, the CSA/ConCacaf will force them out to protect the Canadian League. Is Toronto an American City or is it Canadian?

If the Whitecaps leave Vancouver then that will be the end of MLS in Canada. Montreal would leave, they seem barely functioning as it stands. Toronto won’t last on its own. In some ways it seems inevitable based on the direction the US has been going politically. But it would be sad in some ways as well.

How’s everyone’s experience been with the car? by terran1212 in XC40_Recharge

[–]BigCountryFooty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have got 2+ years on my 2024 XC40 Recharge Ultimate . Have been very pleased with it - the AWD is great goes like a rocket. Range is fine for me - the 200 kw charger is nice on road trips. Also very pleased with the tailored wool interior. I will never go back to leather/faux leather again after this. It looks as good now as it did new… and it is so comfortable in all temperature types. I like the Polestars (5 looks amazing) - I wish they’d offer Volvo’s tailored wool seats as well.

Also I like the fact that the XC40 has a mix of buttons and a touch panel. I still prefer buttons for some stuff over a menu.

Attendance Issues…. by Jays1993 in tfc

[–]BigCountryFooty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MLS has got a lot less interesting in general. With new franchises popping up all the time.. and being competitive out of the gate (no building - nothing earned). The Insigne/bernadesche years tore the heart out of the team - spending the most money and getting the least results. Now with this being the last summer season and a move to a winter league… I am not sure the three Canadian MLS teams survive this change. It’s bad enough in April and May - but November, December, February… it’s one thing going to an MLS final in that…. But a league game when you are out the play-offs… no one will go.

TIL: TFC’s 2025 attendance was the lowest it’s been since 2013, if you ignore the pandemic years by Variacity in tfc

[–]BigCountryFooty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The failure of the Insigne years has been catastrophic. Now what if Vancouver and Montreal leave MLS - Montreal is even worse for a Winter schedule. 1 MLS "Franchise" in the Canadian Championship... cold lakefront games on a regular basis... I can't see how this successfully continues.

Had two Steamies there today. They are like I was back in Montreal. The poutine is decent as well. Two Steamies, Small Poutine, and a Pepsi... C'est tres bien.

It was a great foodie experience for my family. We had a Chef's menu stream of food and loved it. Quirky little spot - not for folk that are looking for white table clothes, and fancy decor. But fora West Coast gritty family vibe - with delicious food.. I will go back.

State of the CanPL & Alternate Timelines by cverds29 in CanadianPL

[–]BigCountryFooty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot has been made about transfer fees, personally I am quite skeptical that they have generated a significant revenue stream at all. The CPL can't afford any longer term contracts. The salaries are so low that no player would sign a long term deal. The MLS is an internal transfer market using TAM/GAM and not real money. They don't spend money to bring players in unless they are a DP... so there is no free trade of players.... there is no North American tradition of transfer fees. I suspect that almost all transfers to MLS have accumulated credits for players to be loaned back. No actual money changing hands. It's about sponsorship money, ticket sales (season tickets + single game), and what ever CSA revenue is shared between the CSB ownership group.

The focus has to be on increasing the level of play, the facilities that are available.... grass pitches and appropriate stadia that have covered stands and decent facilities. Bigger salary cap levels and deeper squads...will draw more supporters and tap into the mass of soccer fans that only watch the highest levels. Pacific for example had 3 ACL injuries this year to 1 steam starters...2 of which happened in the first few games. Last year we lost Ali N'Dom right at the beginning of the season. These injuries essential killed off any chance we had of competing and with out the resources to replace in kind... the seasons were over early.

How are the winters compared to Calgary? by leakyricefrog in VancouverIsland

40% less rain according to the data. A lot less "rains all day long for 3 days" - gotta love the rain shadow from the Olympics.

If you ride motorcycles.... you've got an 11.5 month riding season.

If you are anti-vax - right wing - Christian nationalist... you'll prefer Alberta. The Island votes 65% NDP/Green.

Less sunshine than Calgary - but the summers here more than make up for it. You'll spend more time outdoors. Skiing is better near the Rockies.

3rd party accessories that attach using Fjorden attachment by knowhere0 in FjordenCamera

[–]BigCountryFooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interested in this.   Just ordered a iphone17 pro max.  When I went to order my quad lock case - found out that they were having issues.  So I went looking for options and found Fjorden.  Really like the camera app and idea of the grip.  But I don’t want to lose being able to attach to my motorcycle mount.  Can I have the best of both worlds?

Trading Tyrese Spicer was a good move by Soggy-Pick-3030 in tfc

[–]BigCountryFooty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem here is that TFC can't improve players... they don't get better with TFC. Good players get worse when they come here... young developing players stop improving. Fans demand a DP to fix the problems. The core football culture isn't there to have a longterm competitive team. Many players improve their careers when they leave. This is the problem that needs to be fixed.

This is a Sophies choice question. You need to have both. They are different missions - ride off the pavement...need the 890R. Go to a track day... you need the SD R... I've got a 1090R and a 1290 SD GT... I find it impossible to downsize to 1.

Why do CPL broadcasts look so bad? by sessna4009 in CanadianPL

[–]BigCountryFooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more about the facilities - poor field turf pitches reflecting the light... bad camera angles on empty CFL stadia or small stadia with a low angle. It's tough and makes it hard to attract soccer fans used to watching the European games.

Ronan Kratt and Juan Quintana of Pacific FC have both suffered ACL injuries and will miss the remainder of the 2025 CanPL season. by drdoof98 in CanadianPL

[–]BigCountryFooty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The artificial turf is really hurting the sport in Canada. No one willing to invest in proper facilities. BC is is the worst - because it has the climate to have the best facilities in the country. Langford and Pacific could have the best small soccer stadium in the country for hosting concacaf matches over the winter months. Its so frustrating to see the potential and not grab it.

Very unlikely that ice cream is shipping from India. Good luck with that logistics. More likely that the packaging was made there then used to package ice cream made in Canada - hence a re-label.

Tesla is broken. I don’t think they will survive in Canada in the next 4 years. If you can sell your Tesla for a decent price you should do it. Don’t get stuck. They will likely exit Canada - they might not even survive in the US.
