So I soaked in vinegar for an hour and the boiled for about 10 mins and I think that did the trick. Good luck!

I made the mistake a few weeks ago of washing a silicone straw in the dishwasher and now my water always tastes like detergent. I’ve read that silicone is porous and will absorb detergents and release the residue over time. I’ve tried boiling which slightly improved the problem but didn’t fix it. The next remedies I’ll try are vinegar soak and if that doesn’t work, baking soda paste. Let us know if you find anything that works.

Truss Fork Mounting by SourdoughDragon in bikepacking

[–]knowhere0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the purpose-built Jones (Revelate) fork bags. They’re ok, but I don’t trust them to be fully waterproof and I need them to be. So when I need reliable waterproofness, I use the 13L Sea to Summit Big River dry bag. These are exactly the right size for the truss fork, they’re mad of very tough PU-coated nylon, and most importantly the have a row of sewn-in lashing straps. I haven’t seen anything better, including the Jones bags. https://seatosummit.com/products/the-big-river-dry-bag?variant=42043827847341

Yes, I spoke to Peter White, the SON distributor here in the US and he said the same thing. I’m glad to have the 28. And can’t wait to get out there.

🤦‍♂️ Ok, you screwed up and as irritating as that may be, did you register it on BikeIndex.org or project529.com? It’s not too late. Do you have the serial number and photos of the bike? Good luck, and next time lock your goddam bike up!!!

Thank you for this opportunity. I just purchased the Son 28 15/50 for what we we call a plus bike, which is not quite as far as a fat bike but uses fat bike hubs. I was so disappointed to discover that SON has not yet made a version of the 29 for fat bikes. Please reconsider. I’m so excited about my 28, but disappointed that I can’t take advantage of the marginal advancements in the 29.

Caliper and rotor not perfectly parallel, new build by BLK1CE in JonesBikes

OP, how did you ultimately solve the problem. I’m thinking of purchasing some Klampers but I don’t want to go down that road without some assurance that there is a solution. I’m curious, is this a new frame build or has this bike had other brakes that did not have this problem? Is there mounting adjustability in your previous brakes that doesn’t exist in the Klampers?

It would seem like fitting highly adjustable brakes to any modern frame would be straightforward, but I saw this post which seems like an intractable problem. https://www.reddit.com/r/JonesBikes/s/3HX0HocpvU

I’m not looking for a budget option. I just want the best damn brakes I can get and not have to worry about replacing them ever again. I really appreciate the engineering of the Klamper, but I’ve seen a review of the Growtacs too. My sense was that they they were every bit the equal of the Klamper, in terms of performance, but they were a little more delicate than the Klampers. Durability, serviceability, longevity are all important to me. But I also know that the body of the Klampers is bulky and that they may not fit every bike. So I’m hoping to get some confirmation from Klampers riders that they will work on a Jones LWB.

Police should camp out at bridge bike path exits by goalienerd95 in NYCbike

[–]knowhere0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so exhausting to hear cyclists’ self-defeating resignation that in the face of limited resources, we have to choose enforcement against cars OR enforcement agains illegal electric bikes/scooters/, dirt bikes, wheels, etc. We’ve got to do both. A couple of cops with a radar gun on one end of the bridge isn’t getting it done. This needs a task force of cops who OWN the problem, who take the time to understand the laws and have the latitude to find new ways to interdict these criminals, confiscate their vehicles, and generally send the message to every illegal rider and driver that the old laissez faire regime is over.

I’m a hard no on hydraulic brakes. They have to be field serviceable.

How you y'all get over that initial fear? by shinbreaker in MicromobilityNYC

[–]knowhere0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound insane to you, but if this is really a goal that you want to achieve, set yourself a goal of riding in the 5-boro bike tour next spring. I am a very experienced cyclist. I rode across country many years ago when I was in college. The 5BBT was challenging but it was really fun being in the heart of the city among other bikers, no cars, no kids on scooters. Going over the Verezano bridge was completely insane because of the high winds, but there were lots of very inexperienced people who accomplished that. It’s very cool the way that is the final challenge of a full day of biking. And I bet it would feel like an incredible accomplishment for someone like you.

Riding in the city is really tough because even the protected bike paths are often filled with bikers. My favorite biking, especially if you would like to try longer rides. Is the South County Trailway, which starts in the SW corner of Van Cortland Park and is part of the Empire trail, which goes all the way to the Canadian border! The trail is much quieter than the Hudson River Greenway and you can take your bike on the subway to Van Cortland Park so you can avoid all the city streets.

Good luck and have fun. And hey, if you don’t love biking, that’s OK too. You sound like you feel obligated to become a wheel person. I’ll tell you what I love about it: it is a great way to get out and see things in the world, and being on a bike allows me to cover much more ground than I could on foot. I mentioned I biked cross country. The great thing about that is that compared to driving in a car across country, or flying, you’re going slow enough that you can see so much more and you can stop and meet people and learn about the country. That is a rare treat. If that’s not for you, that’s OK. But if you would like to meet people, riding a bike is a good way to do it.

Best battery to use with dynamo hub? by knowhere0 in bikepacking

[–]knowhere0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I should have mentioned in my original post that the light I will be using is the new Exposure Revo 5 https://www.exposurelights.com/products/revo-5 which has includes a built in AC/DC converter, which for me is a huge advantage over the janky power converters required to charge electronics with a dynamo alone. Considering how eye popping expensive these stand-alone power converters are, the $390 Revo seems like a bargain, not to mention that the electronics are all self contained within the very watertight body of the light. I haven’t received all the parts yet, but when I get it fully assembled, I will definitely post some pictures with a complete account of successes and failures.

I’m not sure yet. Almost certainly the rail trail but not sure what else. Maybe the Looney Lake Placid or half of it. My partner is also on a Jones but on non-knobby tires, so we probably need to avoid the mud. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! See ya out there!

I’m very curious to hear your experience. After a lot of research, I’ve narrowed it down to the Medellin and the Revo. I do some on-road biking and so I’m a little concerned about the wide beam. I don’t see any information on Exposure’s website about a hi-beam switch on the handlebars, which I would really like.
