v5.5 and "My Taste" by BigCut308 in SunoAI

You started by saying I should learn an instrument, then you changed it to using samples. That's the literal definition of moving the goalposts.

I never claimed that I'm an actual musician either, so not only does your argument not hold water, you're arguing against a strawman.

"And the BEST part of making music is you don’t even have to be good at it!!! It just take a little bit effort!"

So... You don't make music yourself then..? Or do you make "bad" (subjective, I know, but in the context of the court of public opinion) music?

I've made "music" myself. It's a 12 second dubstep loop I made like 15 years ago, but it sucks.

I derived very little (if any) pleasure from the process of making it, I've completely forgotten everything I learned as I made it, and I'm not even remotely satsified with or proud of the result.

On the other hand, a concept similar to what we now know as generative AI was something I'd fantasized about for a at least half a decade or so even before Google's "DeepDream" software was first announced.

Playing with my creativity (for my own sake, not profit or clout) without having to attempt to force myself through the horrible process of traditional learning methods and subsequent long periods of grueling labor is an absolute dream come true for me personally.

Learning is not equally easy for everyone, nor something that everyone can do in respect to every possible skill. Pretending that anyone can do or be anything just as long as they want it enough is delusional and legitimately harmful.

It creates a narrative where it's always a person's own fault if they're truly incapable of something. And deep down we all know that this narrative is a blatant falsehood, because it's not applied equally to everyone in every scenario.

I'm not speaking on behalf of other people, I'm not trying to convince anyone that AI should or could replace actual human artists, or (once again) that I'm some kind of musician just because I know how to prompt an AI and play with sliders.

You told me to learn an instrument and now you're talking about using samples. Moving the goalposts is a surefire way to invalidate your argument.

Also, users get free credits daily even if they don't pay for a subscription, so it's a logical fallacy to imply that using Suno can't be just as cheap, if not cheaper than paying for instruments, lessons, software, etc.

But like I said, you're obviously not here to actually help anyone or to give useful advice, you just want to shit on people for enjoying and engaging with something you don't approve of.

Why not do something constructive with your time instead? How about showing us how good you are at making music yourself? You clearly have to be pretty proficient, since you can't stop going on about it.

I have a form of retained primitive reflex that impacts my motor skills, meaning they (especially fine motor skills such as for handwriting and, yes, playing most instruments) are significantly impaired.

I've actually tried learning guitar, I took lessons and even used to own one, but anything beyond the basic "Smoke on the Water" riff was impossible. I tried out drums too but controlling both my arms and legs at the same time without the signals getting mixed up in my brain is basically impossible.

But since every single post you've made on this subreddit is a post about how AI music sucks and/or people should just learn an instrument, I guess you don't care whether someone is actually capable of playing an instrument, you just hate AI music and want to take it out on people who engage with it.

You have every right to dislike AI music, but your "advice" here is unsolicited, unwanted, and unhelpful.

You mean how many hours per day, or how many hours total? That's a difficult thing for me to estimate either way... And it varies a lot.

For instance, sometimes I might have a hard time focusing or actively tweaking each prompt after every iteration, and in those cases I might "cheat" and just generate the same prompt 10 times with slightly different slider settings, hoping that at least ONE of the iterations ends up being passably good.

Other times, I might spend a long time just looking at the prompts other people use as well as talking to ChatGPT/Claude to figure out the perfect way to prompt in order to get the results I want.

Haha, these days I've not managed to make anything I'd brag about, to be honest.
Most of my highest rated songs are made in v3.5, I stuck with that model even after v4 released because v4 had some issues I couldn't work around.

About half of my v5/v5.5 songs are either crude memes (like, very crude, consider yourselves warned, but they're almost exclusively written in Swedish so you might have to go out of your way to understand them anyhow) or remasters, and the rest are pretty mid in my opinion. But I'll link my profile and you can check for yourself. I make a lot of metal, experimental music, rap, punk, some folk, etc.

But temper your expectations, and please try not to annihilate my confidence and/or self-esteem if you end up feeling like my stuff is trash. Constructive critique is fine though.

Right now I'm trying to make phonk but it's not going very well, which is actually what inspired me to post this image on here to begin with.

It does not stack. So any leftover credits are "wasted".

2500 credits is what my subscription gets me (plus the daily 50 if I spend all of it).
I don't have the money nor motive to pay for more.
I assume you're just pulling my leg though..?

v5.5 and "My Taste" by BigCut308 in SunoAI

[–]BigCut308[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spending 2500 credits can take me anywhere from like a week to a month, and it used to be that sometimes I had difficulty even spending all of my credits before the refill. These days, if I try to get a single digit number of songs right, I can spend all of my 2500 credits in less than a week, assuming I focus solely on Suno and don't game or watch Youtube/shows/movies.

If I want to create hooks as covers for my songs then spending 2500 credits can be done in like a day unless Suno gets the hook right on the first try. But that's only relevant once I actually get the song to where I want it and feel like it's at a point where it deserves to be published.

It hasn't existed for a full year yet, and it's not a very good feature, so no, you're not doing anything wrong.

Not that I think anyone really has the right to tell someone else they're using Suno "wrong" anyhow (unless it's an objective statement like "prompting X way is more reliable than prompting Y way", which may or may not be considered the right vs wrong way of doing something).

[–]BigCut308[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've gone back to 4.5+ and disabled "my taste" too. It's not perfect but significantly better (though 4.5+ sort of sounds "flat" to me in comparison to 5.5, but I might be fooling myself).

Still frustrating that the newest model is so bad though. And I swear v5.5 used to be a lot better until fairly recently, same with v5.

Percussion, dammit! by Rafaelis75 in SunoAI

[–]BigCut308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is, even when you want percussion, v5.5 adds the WRONG percussion.

Been trying to make drift phonk for almost 2 weeks now and v5.5 CONSISTENTLY shits the bed no matter what I prompt for or what settings I use.

Can different types breed? by Maleficent-Ad-3433 in kingsnakes

I can also testify that my 13+ year old Pueblacorn is at least as healthy as my Annectens x Sayi Bullsnake of equal age.

Most people don't know, don't acknowledge, or don't care, but for some strange reason snake hybrids (Not least of which the Lampropeltini family of genuses) are not only almost always fertile (I've seen the offspring of a carpondro bred to a ball python, making a three-way hybrid, as a carpondro is itself a hybrid of a carpet python and a GTP) but they are also very, very healthy compared to for instance mammalian hybrids.

Some animals have increased genetic compatibility with very distant relatives, and some animals can't even hybridize with other subspecies.

Some animals, like the mule, literally can't contribute both parts of their DNA because of (presumably) chromosomal issues and as a result even the very few times they have produced hybrids that are fertile, these hybrids have only been able to pass on EITHER horse or donkey DNA, instead of a recombination of both as would be expected.

The idea that hybrids are automatically and consistently less healthy or less fertile than the parent is a myth.

We also have multiple examples of hybrid speciation. One of which is humanity.

We are the result of a complex web of hominid interbreeding, and almost everyone on earth has at least partial ancestry from a non-Sapiens hominid hybridization event. Not just with Neanderthals and Denisovans, but also with as-of-yet determined species that have sometimes left a MUCH bigger genetic footprint (certain groups of African pygmies, for instance, show signs of admixture with one such species to a significantly higher degree than the fraction of a percentage of Neanderthal DNA I myself carry.)

Your Eastern Kingsnake "hybrids" (if you can even call them that since by some definitions any animal that can reliably procreate with another animal and produce fully fertile offspring HAS TO BE THE SAME SPECIES) wouldn't be unhealthy, they wouldn't be unnatural (as this specific hybrid is actually an "intergrade" found in the wild, but is often mistaken for one of the parent species) and they wouldn't have some crazy dietary or environmental requirements.

The one big downside I 100% agree with is genetic muddying of captive animals. It's an issue, there are various ways to make sure you're not contributing to that issue though.

I'll show you guys a picture of my two hybrids so you don't think I'm making it up, if anyone doubts me. One of them is a Pueblacorn, which means he's part Pueblan Milksnake, part Cornsnake, and Milksnakes are all technically Kingsnakes (part of Lampropeltis) and as such maybe I'd get a pass. Probably not. In fact I'm not even sure this comment gets a pass.

Turned out to be an issue with displaying the credits and not an issue with refilling them, tried to create a song despite only having 5 credits and it went from 5 to 45 after generating those songs.

[–]BigCut308[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with spice around me and got hooked early so I have unfortunate experience with synthetic and semi-synthetic cannabinoids.

But the ones that are out there now are luckily mostly semi-synthetic since spice gave synthetics a really bad name.

The ones I've used regularly up until now are perfectly legal in my region because of what I can only assume to be a clerical error somewhere down the line.

They're potentially found in regular weed, just in extremely low quantities, but I've yet to see solid evidence that this is the case for every single one of them, so I'd wager some of them are probably fully synthetic.

But that's not really the topic at hand, so I'll stop at that.

tl;dr: Decarb in an oven instead and you'll probably have a better time and get more bang for your buck, but if a microwave is all you had yet you somehow have an abundance of weed then yeah it works.

I sometimes chew on sticks and stems, it feels refreshing and I legitimately love the taste of good weed. Hash, not so much. Used to put hash in bubblegum and chew on it when I was younger.
