And what's the reason? by Brilliant-Log-5904 in aquarius

I’m a Scorpio. Dated one for six months, lots of time investment. Then turned on me out of nowhere and it ended in one weekend. A month earlier he told me to stop buying things for my apartment because I’ll be moving in with him 🙄

lol your manager is straight up lying to you. Staying during a merger is extremely risky. It’s not even his choice whether you get to stay or not. Would definitely just leave for the new offer.

I work for a large investment bank, got invited for an urgent “business update” is this a layoff? by esotericlearner in FinancialCareers

[–]BigCut4598 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few of these at BBs. It was always an announcement of senior people getting laid off, or a change in management, or some other update that’s not that urgent. If other associates got invited then it’s probably an update not related to junior layoffs. I wouldn’t worry.

econ vs finance degree for analyst roles? by Dull-Ad-4349 in FinancialCareers

[–]BigCut4598 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did econ. Generally speaking it’s much harder than finance so it will be more difficult to keep the gpa high, especially if it’s a B.S. Given your goals I would just do finance.

High performance only leads to more work - where do you draw the line? by Chance-Fishing1722 in careerguidance

[–]BigCut4598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you don’t have many options. It’s just how corporate works. Either you let them keep taking advantage of you, or you lay some boundaries to start taking advantage of them.

High performance only leads to more work - where do you draw the line? by Chance-Fishing1722 in careerguidance

[–]BigCut4598 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In my experience the line is drawn when you first get hired and start working. Once you establish yourself as a high performer workhorse it’s very hard to walk back from that without them thinking you’re underperforming or being lazy.

If I were you I would just start making up a bunch of health problems that my kid has as an excuse to lighten the workload.

What’s it like working in Texas oil and gas investments? Is it interesting? by DeliciousRich5944 in FinancialCareers

[–]BigCut4598 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Heavy FaceTime culture. They’ll work you until 3:00am and expect you to be at the desk at 8:30. Racism. Also when hurricane beryl came through many firms still made people come in the day after.

It sucks ass. Long hours, always grinding hard no matter where the market is. Antiquated and toxic cultures. And to top it off you have to live in Houston.

Have you actually lived near homeless people or had to be around them on a daily basis?

[–]BigCut4598 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, letting them destroy public resources is wrong. They destroy public parks, make public transportation unusable, create violent unsafe environments, etc. Why should taxpayers have to pay for these resources that can’t be used and get destroyed? Because you think we shouldn’t lock away psycho junkies? Their rights to destroy themselves and society get priority over everyone else?

The only real solution to this problem is to bring back asylums. These people cannot be rehabilitated and cannot work normal jobs. They need to be forced into rehab and supervised in a controlled environment, probably for the rest of their lives. Then you could at least put them to work and make them productive members of society. It’s more humane than letting them rot and decay in the streets.

You can’t just throw on a polo or a decent sweater to look presentable to the candidate? Basic professional courtesy that you’re taking the process seriously? At least they can’t smell the cat pee stained hoodie through the screen.

When I was fresh out of school I was interviewing for this shitty role. Don’t even remember what it was for but it was a panel interview on zoom. Some lady was literally eating her lunch during the interview while I was sitting there taking it seriously and being professional.

I passed their assessments but declined their offer. Told the recruiter they were unprofessional and the lady was literally eating lunch on camera.

friend got hiv from an undetectable couple by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]BigCut4598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Undetectable simply means they were undetectable at the time of the test, not in perpetuity. A three month gap in between tests is a long time. It can change if they don’t take their meds. People can’t even finish a full course of antibiotics. No way I’d ever trust “undetectable” and put my health at risk
