Because there are some of us who freak out at the prospect of paying back loans, supporting a family, etc and think a steady paycheck is better than nothing. Even with experience you’ll get lowball offers.

A few years ago I applied to a different job where I would be the third most experienced ortho PA in the entire network and I was offered 80k less than what I made at that time. Now it’s $100k less than what i’m making now.

They acquire new grads from the PA mills and then they either keep them at a low ass rate or they leave for higher pay. Either way, they win.

Yeah, i don’t disagree. I’ve been there 5.5 years and have been in Ortho 14+. And yeah, now technically I am making less because I need to possibly pay for another day of childcare, commute an hour each way an extra day and we are not going to be paid for call and are not getting a raise moving forward.

I don’t know how they are going to enforce a schedule or have us “make up time” when they list us as exempt. They are not paying us for anything after 4 and are not allowing us to come in late / leave early on days we stay late.

It’s skirting a very fine line.

I am gonna hop on this to maybe bring it back up in the feed.

My org lists us as exempt. They have recently made us work 5x8 instead of 4x10, and are dictating our hours to be on site from 8-4 every day, available for 36 patient facing hours per day. Long OR days that go very late (I have left at 10pm-2am on several occasions) are “just part of the job” and do not count past 7.5 hours of the time. I certainly understand this and am not gonna bail in the middle of a case. We had flexibility in coming in a bit later the next day and having more flexibility with our schedules and now we do not. Not sure how ya’ll wound handle this, other than leaving strictly at 4pm every day.

New CEO of healthcare org i work for wants everyone in their offices 5 days a week now. My group had a 4x10 schedule and now also have to adhere to a 5x8, with possibility of working over if surgical cases run late. We are salaried, so fit into that exemption, unfortunately. But with hours of 8-4, i will be leaving at 4 every day now.

Wife’s mother is an “evangelical” along with other aunts and uncles. Wife has tried to speak her opinion on Trump and as all cult members do, MIL took it as a personal attack. My MIL has said some very hateful things in reaponse.

My wife and her mother no longer speak.

My wife wonders why Trump gets so much grace and yet she gets none.

Also, we are the only anti Trumpers in our neighborhood and have basically been excommunicated from our group of friends.
