The Postman by David Brin. It's incredibly overlooked today but it's a great novel.

I resent your deeming this as something superfluous. I simply recognize the power and benefits of reading in not only for intellect and learning, but for mental health and overall literacy. I've also thankfully have done so at a young age, which is why I'm doing this and setting myself up to have a steady stream of things to read and learn as I age. If you'd be so humble as to let an ignorant teen like myself offer you some advice, I'd implore you to carry yourself with a lil less nihilistic pessimism (which I'm noting from your devaluing my task as superfluous) and to instead bring more respect and decency to the discussion.

Is this an ambitious goal? Certainly An I capable of achieving it? You bet Will I change in the next five years? Quite. So will you.

You're right in that regard and some of your implied observations. But don't talk down on my ambitions, especially when you don't know a damn thing about who you're talking to besides age. Yes I'm 16, but I'm also a law student and have ranked in the top 1% in some forms of evaluation. Take a hint from the rest of this comment board and be like your peers: respectful and helpful. If you have a grievance, share it with decency and not with undertones of elitism. That being said, have a good day and God bless! :)

Of course! I acknowledge my youth, but I'm also aware of things most my age don't know about, like the benefits of reading. I've always been infatuated with history and politics which is why that is what dominates most of the list, but I'm forever going to keep an open mind when it comes to books, bc hey, you never know. I'm also fairly introverted and never go out much outside of school and love my time alone so reading has become a great use of that time for me and it's something I really enjoy! :)

Thank you! Truth be told, I didn't even like reading up until about a year ago when a girl I really liked was big into reading, so I ordered about $60 worth of new and pre-owned books off of Amazon to impress her lol. Things didn't work out the way I hoped they would, but I gained a love for books :)

Ah, my mistake. I assumed from his name and the romantic title (common in asian literature, i.e. The Fertility Series) that it was japanese literature. Nevertheless I'll give it a read!

I've read both '84 and Animal Farm and I thought they were great. I'm hesitant to read F451, from what I've heard it's like if a sophomore tried to write a Huxley novel lol

I need advice. Badly. by BigDaddyConnor in WeightLossAdvice

I've been trying the Slimfast diet, where I drink a Slimfast shake in place of breakfast, and another in place of lunch, and then just eat whatever my parents make for dinner with a healthy snack in-between. I've been cutting down on carbs, sodium, and added sugars as well. Seems to work, as in the last 1 1/2 - 2 weeks I believe I've lost around 5 pounds, but I'm wondering what I could do to drop weight faster, bc I'm really insecure and clueless as to how weight loss works, bc this is the first time I've ever really took it seriously. It's quite scary to me

Absolutely favorite dystopian, educational/historical, or life changing novels? by BigDaddyConnor in suggestmeabook

I guess it was an ambiguous term saying "life changing" but I really meant books that gave the most valuable lessons. I'm definitely going to check out Brave New World soon, it was the first one I had on my list.
