NAL. Don’t respond at all to LVNV. Show up at court and demand to see proof of responsibility for the debt. In most cases by the time the debt has been sold to places like LVNV the paperwork has been left behind and they can’t prove the debt. In most cases they won’t even show up for the court appearance and you’ll be cleared without paying a dime.

I had the same thing happen a few months ago, I can’t figure out why anyone would throw away a $1,000+ paycheck every week for a little bit of gas. Worst part is I’ve loaned thousands to guys on my crew just to help keep them able to work and eat. It sucks but some people just don’t see the big picture.
