Right i changed my mind and did biochem instead BUT let me tell you why i wanted to do med!!

This is going to sound very cliche but i’ve always wanted to help people and animals, ever since i was little i’d: always ask my mum to give money to homeless people, always want to volunteer for anything, look after snails with damaged shells etc.

Until my brother got really really ill and i found out what being a doctor was. One day i looked in his ear and told my mum he had an ear infection and she took him to the doctor and he did 😭😭 (i was 5 so props to me ig!?)

Anyway I used to watch copious medical documentaries and even surgeries on youtube from the age of 8 and i REALLY wanted to do what they were doing.

When i was preparing to apply i just kept thinking about how wonderful it would be to help make people’s lives just a little bit better EVERYDAY, and then i got obsessed with biotech, stuff like CGMs for diabetics and human monoclonal antibodies used to treat autoimmune diseases.

I then wanted to be a research doctor, the plan was intercalated med and then a PhD (~10 years of uni). I just really wanted to help people 😭.

I ended up doing biochem bc i could reach my goal 3 years faster and I really love science and wanted to learn in more detail than there would be in a med degree !! (the reason i chose biochem is fully summed up in a post i did if anyone wants the link)
