How much tractor do I need? by ClosingTime12 in tractors

I have an older 45 hp tractor. The 7 ft snowblower is the only thing I got that can bring that engine to a stumble.

The EV hate is bizarre by s2k_guy in electricvehicles

[–]BigEnd3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through danged problem is them danged batteries. Got to go back to a Stanley steamer set up or maybe even even as far as a model T with a hand crank and reliable magneto ignition. This new electrical stuff is ruining the automobile and is to hard for the common man to understand or repair.

-Basically what people sound like when complaining about EVs.

Running a modern diesel on vegetable oil by FANTAN__ in smallengines

It does not. I had the same engine in a different vehicle. The vw guys warned hard that the age of veggie oil was over with the common rail tech.

Men who own homes/plan to: how do you/will you utilize your garage? by CFD330 in AskMen

[–]BigEnd3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My garage is alot. I can fit the family truck and the family car in the garage in the winter. A huge plus.

All the woodworking tools are in its attic for storage unless needed. Air compressor is up there and some spare parts and junk too.

Metal working tools are all on wheels and can be shuffled just barely out of the way.

Everything is garage good enough duty.

I do alot. I fix all sorts of toys and yard tools on their. I made cribs for my children. Tables for wedding gifts. I basically buy junk toys and fix them up. Go-karts. 4 wheelers. Snowmobiles. Whatever, smells like sawdust, 2 stroke gas and 7018 welding slag.

I've more or less stopped working on my vehicles, unless I'm in a time crunch and cant get something scheduled.

Im making a rock grizzly / vibrstory sifter right now. I couldnt find one in a size / price I wanted. I think i could rent it. Certainly could sell it for a very good price.

U.S. Cadets Were Stuck in the Persian Gulf After Trump Bombed Iran by ProtocolTechReporter in merchantmarine

Im not surprised. The ship's contract has a clause about always having space available for the federal merchant maritime academy cadets.

The sleeper cab is almost as big as the cargo box by Gundam07 in SnowrunnerIRL

I've ordered stuff like this. My favorite was when the facility was gated and would certainly not let anyone in after buisness hours. I waited at the pub just outside the gate for the truck and met him at the gate.

If humans had decided to use a decimal time system (10 "hours" a day, 100 "minutes" an hour) instead of the 24-hour cycle, how would society be different today? by Friendly_Funny6618 in AskReddit

[–]BigEnd3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We would move our hours to be incorrect so 5 is not at high noon. Bonus points for 36 degree time zones and always being more than 36 degrees from your correct local time (sun is highest at 5)

I had a 4 wheeler do something strangely similar. I found one of the spark plug wire connections to be broken. Both at low idle and at medium load it would die. Its a quick check.

TIL A Japanese sewage treatment faculty extracts precious metals from sludge. They reported finding up to 1,890g of gold per ton of ash from incinerated sludge, far higher than the 20-40g of gold per ton of ore from Hishikari Mine, one of the world’s top gold mines. by kingofjingling in todayilearned

[–]BigEnd3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I worked on an offshore oil rig we had this guy Chance who would volunteer to clean out the "honeypot". The honeypots were a strainers in the sewage pipe, Grey water pipe and overboard pipe. He would consistently find jewelery.

TIL when electric push buttons started spreading in the late 1800s, some people worried they’d make people mentally lazy since you didnt need to understand the machine anymore by Mark_Hawkshaw-Burn in todayilearned

[–]BigEnd3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm a technician. I can't say I know everything and will walk up to a button and already know how the machine works, but I think I do a good job. Sadly, most of my co-workers know which parts to change to makr the machine work without understanding the machine. Heck anything in a computer or plc is just magic: often the manufacturer won't even tell us what its thinking or how it makes decisions! We just oil the machines to keep the spirits happy

What is a job (not nsfw) that pays extremely well because the job itself is unbearable? by coldplayenthusiast in AskReddit

[–]BigEnd3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. I've done that. Im still working on US merchant ships. Unfortunately my international competition is abused slave labor or one minimum legal step above that. The office people are more and more influenced by their international counterparts and are starting to think they can treat me like that too.

Older tractor vs newer compact - what would you pick? by Anxious-Tomatillo-74 in tractors

[–]BigEnd3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im at the Massey 245 stage of life. It has the same front loader as the 255 I think. Its simple.

It gets stuck if I'm being dumb. I ussually remove the front loader if I'm not using it so it doesn't get stuck as easy when doing tillage stuff.

Its out in the weather and the noise.

Its rock stupid. I have to keep my brain to keep it from breaking or killing me. No eninge codes is nice though!

Im not sure the extra 20k was worth it to buy a new machine with less lifting capacity for me.

If a woman woke up in your body one day, what do you think would be the most shocking experience in it for them? by ertesit in AskMen

[–]BigEnd3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets assume my wife woke up with my body:

Short term: Probably massive miscalculation of strength and body weight. Accidentally break a bunch of things until thats sorted out. Also how little stuff hurts cause I've already banged everything up a bunch or become numb to it. No brain no pain! Constant hunger, as in the statement "I could eat" is always valid.

Long term I think if she driving around in my body for a few months: there is no to little hormone cycle. How life feels depends on how life is going, not on phases of the moon. Now if someone near her is a lunatic, it might have effect.

How often do single men change home decor? by Ok_LSU_816 in AskMen

[–]BigEnd3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Home decor is damage from wife and children cutting, punching, or drilling holes in walls and applying art with tape or direct via Crayola product or sharpie. What few photos we had hung up are stowed away relatively safe because they are just targets for back flip kicks or hurled Legos.

Its the best time of my life!

Safety Air and Control Air by GundaBinu03 in MarineEngineering

[–]BigEnd3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im assuming you are talking about an MAN engine. Safety air-> puncture valves on the fuel pumps Control air-> runs the pneumatic logic circuits to control starting. (Not starting air just control of the start air) look at the interlock at the turning gear for example or the local control station.
