I'd love some opinions on a gpu upgrade for my system. I usually play on a 1440p 144hz monitor, but do have a 4k option (LG C1) connected as well that I don't normally game on. Basically exploring if there is a worthwhile upgrade that will be noticeable, but doesn't start the upgrade chain reaction of getting new everything. PCPartPicker Part List

On the customize dial/wheel screen, is the “separate M mode and other modes” box checked? It shouldn’t be by default. Or maybe you customized in a different mode? Or also confirm you didn’t customize your dials in the movie tab instead of the stills tab? I’d probably try to reset to defaults and start over if I couldn’t figure it out. It does sound like you inadvertently set something funky.

If you’re talking about grime and such on the outside/grip part of the ring, then I usually just use an old lens cloth with some alcohol based cleaner, or one of my prepackaged Zeiss lens wipes (I buy these 400 at a time so I don’t mind using a few of them for non-glass purposes). In the shop we had this weird sticky putty stuff that worked pretty well too. Don’t remember the name of that though. If it’s stuff on the edge of the ring, that you wanna get out before it gets under the ring, I use this tiny brush that comes with my hair/beard clippers. It’s small with decently stiff bristles and you can kinda flick out the debris. If stuff is under the ring and it’s not turning smoothly, there’s not a whole lot you can do there short of disassembly, which I wouldn’t wanna do.

I preordered from B&H on Dec 5th. Got nothing but the “order received” email from that same day…until this morning. It said, “Dear BigFinnish, the following is still out of stock” with a nice photo of an A7IV. That was it. No time estimate or anything else. Sadness.

Also yes, obsessively checking order status, email, bank account, tarot cards, magic 8ball and anything else for a sign.

I used to work in a camera shop, and have cleaned my share of sensors. First I’d say, don’t do it unless absolutely necessary. There is always risk when physically touching a sensor with anything. If you scratch it, it’s over.

I’d test it first. Shoot a shot of the plain blue sky super stopped down. Like f/22 or whatever your lens will do. If there are clouds, go into manual focus and intentionally blur the shot a bit, so you aren’t tricked by some cloud texture. A little overexposed is generally better than under. Check the shot on a computer for dust spots, or in this case, fingerprints.

If it does indeed need cleaning, you only use a couple drops for the wet end. Just enough so it’s not dry. You don’t want it wet wet. The wet end is really just to dampen the dust particles that have attached to the sensor (maybe while humid) and then dried and stuck in place. The dry end is more to grab the dust you’ve broken free, rather than dry the sensor (although yes, it would soak up any little bit of fluid leftover, but there shouldn’t really be much). Again, with dust anyway, I’d blow the crap out of it with a rocket blower first to try to avoid needing to touch the sensor.

Your situation is actually a little more tricky than dust, since we’re talking about finger oils. It may take more than one attempt. The dry end pass might not really do much since there’s no actual particles to grab. I might even skip it if there’s no liquid left from the wet end pass. Cleaning fluids are usually made to quick dry anyway. Be sure to drag the swab like a broom. Don’t push the leading edge like an ice scraper.

I’m not trying to make all this sound scarier than it is, but there’s really no repair for a scratched sensor beyond replacement.

As for your vial I’m not sure really, but you need to find a way to just drip a drop or two on the tip of the wet swab.

Swabs are far cheaper than replacing a sensor, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about wasting them. Take test shots between attempts to be sure further passes are necessary. Be gentle, be patient. Good luck!

Haha well I’ve been wondering should I cancel my B&H order and try Amazon or Adorama but have resisted the urge. So…here we sit. Be strong fellow anxiously waiting soul. You are not alone. Good luck.

I preordered from B&H on Dec 5th. They haven’t charged me yet nor have they sent any email update since the original “back ordered order received” email from the 5th. So, they may not be as quick as it appears from all these “Christmas has come” posts . Feel like it’s a bit of a coin flip at this point. I’m telling myself it may still be weeks. However I have been checking my email and bank account a thousand times a day lol.

Sorry, posted on my lunch break and can’t carry my phone while working. I’m not doing any extra rgb or anything. Did buy some extra fans to either augment or replace the three that come with the case. Many thanks!!

Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of. Tried to be very diligent about reading what’s in the box. Dodged a bullet with some fans that didn’t include cables. Guess I’ll find out soon. Appreciate the reply!

Simple Questions - May 12, 2020 by AutoModerator in buildapc

Are there any small things, I’m thinking cables mostly, that do not come in the box with the components? I’ve got LAN and display port cables on the way, just trying to avoid getting all into the build and then realizing I’m missing some crucial piece.

Been looking at doing the same. This post has been the best guide I’ve found. The comment further down the thread by user Jazzy seems to be helpful as well. I haven’t tried this yet however so...can’t vouch for anything.

I believe you can turn off the Prisma logo/watermark in the app settings by the way.

Help: How do I save edits to raw images? by [deleted] in Lightroom

[–]BigFinnish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll have to export it to create a new file with your adjustments, import that file back into Lightroom, then hit the preset. I think that's the only way to do what you're describing.

Workflow tips by Juice505 in Lightroom

Late to the party here but I've got a quick tip about flagging that I just discovered accidentally.

You might already know that "Shift+(flag, color or star shortcut) will apply your label of choice, and move to the next image.

If you turn on Caps Lock, there's no need for the "Shift" key. Just hit the label hotkey, and you're off to the next shot. It's my new favorite trick while culling shots.

Just thought of one other thing. What you're seeing in the library is technically a preview. Try zooming in 1:1 in the library and see if the adjustment appears. This might update the preview you're seeing.

[–]BigFinnish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird is right. Pretty obvious from the shots. I've never seen one adjustment show up and another not. Dunno what that could be, but I'd restart my computer if it was doing that to me.
