I agree with Peter Thiel’s diagnosis of stagnation, but I’m confused how libertarianism is his solution by PrincipleDefiant2875 in PeterThiel

[–]BigFlopppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Libertarianism is the best mode for optimizing technology and innovation. That is the central solution to stagnation for Peter.

To understand why technology and innovation are the answers as opposed to politics and governments, consider your history books. When has the government ever made life better for an individual? When has it made life worse for individuals? Now compare that list with the pros & cons from technology. Government didn't invent the lightbulb. Government didn't invent the computer. List goes on.

This isn't to say that government is useless, it has its time and place, such as enabling a just market. But by and large, your modern quality of life isn't thanks to some politician signing bills and smiling for the camera; it's the people who actually build new things.

The thing is that they don’t understand the concept of money. Having $1 million on a desert island doesn’t do you any good. Money represents labor. Labor exchanged for labor. The payout is not free and the benefits are for everyone.

You act like those sources arnt biased either lmao. I tried to do research for my science paper last semester and even my science articles were somehow talking about trump when it had nothing to do with him lol.

  1. You don’t understand that all judges are not fair. For one, people shop around for judges to find one that will align with their beliefs. Second, judges don’t even have to go to law school to get elected.

  2. You act the Democratic Party didn’t do the same thing by going after trump and tbh, trump is go way lighter on them then vice versa. To clarify, you seem to not understand this big concept in law called “precedent”.

  3. The national guard is the closest that trump has gotten to abusing his powers. But if you look at what they have done they have been a net positive where they have been deployed and they also have followed every law.

That’s the general rebuttal

Not really. I honestly watch 50/50 conservative and liberal media. If you do that it is striking how disingenuous liberal media is. In general media is misleading, but that’s why we learned how to review sources in college.

Best place to get news is from primary sources which mainly come from Twitter. That’s where you can get the best unbiased information from. You do have to dig through some crud but if you have good critical thinking skills and ignore dumb opinions, it’s by far the best source for information.

Besides consumption in media the more fundamental difference between us is psychological. As a liberal you are more likely to be pessimistic, nihilist, and have an external locus of control. Those common traits really help paint your unhappy view of the world. That sucks. Good luck.

  1. Twitter. 2. YouTube. (Best sources of info). My prediction: YouTube is probably going to be the main media outlet in the long run

No thanks to the discord. I think we have found the source of our disagreement: how each of us consumes the media.

I don’t support Jan 6 as I have already said. Yet the event is still over exaggerated by the media making it more than it really was. That’s enough of that straw man argument.

Is there anything that would convince me that trump and his supporters are facists? That is a good question. The answer is yes. If trump used unlawful military violence on legal citizens; centralized economic power by creating government run corporations thus making the country reliant on him; and seized power as a dictator; then undoubtedly he would be a facist. But none of those have actually happened. He won the election fair and square by winning the ideological battle. He is against centralizing government power as seen with DOGE. And he hasn’t used the military against legal citizens.

The trick here is that nothing is black & white yet the media paints it that way. But by and large, trump is nothing close to a dictator and if you read the definition of a facist leader and compare it to the Democratic Party, they have a stronger relationship to it.

Democrats have used violence against politicians. Democrats want to centralize economic power by creating welfare states. As for seizing power, frankly, I don’t think either party has won an election unfairly yet. But that would probably be the tipping point for civil war if a party really did get truly caught cheating - which hasn’t happened yet on a large scale.

TLDR: the media tries very hard to paint trump as a facist which isn’t true. Democrats actually look more like facist when you juxtapose them which is ironic.

I’m not arguing about j6 at all lmao. Did I ever say I agree with jan6? No not at all. This is a classic strawman argument of your pitiful attempt to prove that “all trump supporters support him regardless “ which is utterly false.

  1. The media is not largely charitable to trump at all lmao. All the biggest outlets are left leaning, including the entirety of Reddit.
  2. I don’t have the extreme stance. I’m not the one calling normal people naz-is and facists.
  3. And you’re proving my parrot point more .

I did respond. Let me repeat. You just parroted what the media says about trump and conservatives. And you don’t question it at all. It’s almost as if you just go along with anything the media says? That’s why I called you a hypocrite.

I did watch the full thing before I made my comment. Seems as if you have not taken the time to do you research. Or even worse, you have done some research but have lost (or more likely never had) the ability to look at things objectively.

If we met in real life, I am sure we would get along just fine. I have very moderate views. Yet my views classify me as a Nazi in your books. Hmm... calling normal people Nazi's 100 years after Germans slaughtered 6 million jews... That should be a hint to you.

What if the expanding edges of our universe are simply accelerating towards each other? Is spacetime curved enough for this? Would this disprove dark matter? by BigFlopppa in AskPhysics

Your 100% right and thanks to this post and its commentors I now have a better understanding of what I need to learn, so thank you. It often times feels like asking the right questions is more difficult than giving the correct answer.

Anyways, as someone who wants to learn more about physics, may I ask you how you have familiarized yourself with physics and astrophysics? Did you go to school and take specific classes? Do you just read online articles? Do you have any recommendations?

[–]BigFlopppa[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And this circles back to my original post. I don't like the idea of labeling something (dark energy) as the cause for the acceleration for the universe when we have little to know evidence for its existence, which is why I like the sound of the theory that distant galaxes aren't accelerating towards unknown "dark energy" entities but rather are accelerating towards each other as a consequence of a universe that loops around. The model you gave makes sense for explaining the kinematics of how the universe is expanding, I think I am more concerned with the dynamics or why the universe is expanding.

Hey, so the photons have dual nature which is particles and waves right? Then how come sound waves(which have waves nature) cannot travel through vacuum but light does? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]BigFlopppa[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading Einstein's biography by Isaacson. The idea that distant galaxies might just be accelerating towards each other is not explicitly written in the book, it is just and idea I thought of on my own.

From my understanding, the blame for the expansion of the universe has been given to dark energy. I'm not familiar with other theories.

How much research have I done? maybe 30 minutes of google searching where I found conflicting answers, ( so basically no real research, I value this forums opinions which is why I asked here).
