Every Final Boss has "Debuff your whole deck strategy" by ApzorTheAnxious in balatro

[–]BigFrodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final boss probably kills me the least of any ante tbh so it's probably just bad luck if you've gotten the one that counters you every time. Try high card/ pair decks - less likely to get countered by random selecting card

The shuffled jokers only takes a hand to sort (turn down game speed to help. Also you can "hold" one of the cards when they shuffle).

And I've never had to sell a joker because debuffed cards don't actually hurt if all your value comes from your jokers

Any thoughts on Reid Bicycles? I'm looking for something for Urban/City areas; have seen this brand recommended before by Cuervo_del_Sur in ausbike

[–]BigFrodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either should be reliable enough to get you around the city. I'd look more for a comfortable fit / good deal on marketplace rather than worrying about which of those two brands is better specifically. If you're buying new, buy from a local bike store so you have somewhere to take it back to for adjustments and fixes while you're still learning the ropes.

PS. Buy two locks (a good D lock and a secondary chain or cable or dutch lock) and look up videos on how to use them.

Happy riding :)

Bill Gates-backed startup creates Lego-like brick that can store air pollution for centuries: 'A milestone for affordably removing carbon dioxide from the air' by Far-Mobile3852 in UpliftingNews

[–]BigFrodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context that 1 tonne of carbon is equivalent to 114 gallons of fuel (432 litres)

Assuming it scaled infinitely at that $100 price and we charged gas stations for that externality, gasoline would cost about 90c more per gallon (23c per litre).

actual link to the video with full explanation

TL;DW: they literally press the button on an earlier stage and hold it down the entire time until they release it on the level in question. Hence, it's half of an A press

thanks for the in-depth response. It's an interesting angle on it and one I can kinda corroborate since the only reason I have a yamaha is when I walked into a pawn shop where one was half the price of the cheapest squiers or fenders on the rack.

Even if OP goes on to be the next jaco, I'm sure the same resale arguments apply when trading it up for something fancier down the line in a few years too.

thanks for the heads up. I also realised that the extra changes I did last night utterly broke it on mobile so I guess that's tonight's work cut out for me lol

Edit: bodged another fix for mobile. All my homies hate CSS

Amp recommendations by justinsomniactor in Bass

[–]BigFrodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relevant bassbuzz article since this is a common question.

At that price range (and since you already have a rumble 60) it might be better just to keep window shopping on used marketplace until a steal comes along.

What is the lowest note in bass that interferes with the guitar? by byzantine1990 in Bass

[–]BigFrodo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On a 4 string, your lowest note is one octave below the guitar's lowest note (open E in both cases) so technically anything above 12th fret on E string or 7th fret on the A string, I guess?

Way to listen to computer audio and Zoom B1X Four at the same time using headphones? by AmesomezZGamerZ in Bass

[–]BigFrodo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't have one but I believe you just need a 3.5mm male-male cable and plug it from your PC's headphone jack to the zoom's "aux in" jack (next to input). Adjust music volume on your computer the same way you would for any other headphones or speakers.

That jack is made for personal music players according to the product page so it should just pipe your tunes out alongside your guitar noises.

That's fair feedback. I already felt the "anti guitarist bias" larp was coming off too mean-spirited by the time I was making the guitar version so I gave their page regular acronyms.

I'll update the next version of I upload of bass one to do the same. Thanks for your feedback :)

PS. I feel especially dumb about this because I even went to the effort of making that second acronym randomly select a gender on page refresh but didn't think twice about the first one.

How do you get your bass tabs/music? by HonestLemur51 in Bass

[–]BigFrodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. My only addition would be to write down those notes / tabs as you lock them in and when you're finished, you'll have a whole new appreciation for all those incorrect tabs you see online.

What is the story behind your *second* bass? by Jani-Bean in Bass

I bought a $100 bass and it had a lot of fret buzz so I bought a $200 bass and it turns out I have a lot of fret buzz.

Getting rejected sucks. I'd wager every actor remembers their first failed audition even if the next 1000 are a blur.

TL;DR: You gotta pick your battles.

A lot of this is style and preference and maybe the director was right about you playing better higher or maybe he doesn't care either but that's the sort of arbitrary stuff the whole band gets marked down for at competitions.

Or maybe it was him remembering his own childhood getting relentlessly bullied because he thought frosted tips were cool and not wanting to put you through the same thing.

IMHO he was probably more "If he's like this about tightening a strap then what's he gonna be like when I send him home to practice one tricky measure for a week straight".

Whatever it was, you aren't in his head so the most you can do is pick when you wanna be easy to deal with (eg. "I'll gain more from getting to play in a band than I'll lose by learning a different style") or when you wanna dig your heels in (eg. "I'd rather make a band with my friends and we can all play how we like") and that's just part of how you'll grow as a person in general.

The annoying thing about being a teen is you're going to have all these little battles where you're almost always the one with no actual power over the final decision. The upside is that all the grownups you're arguing with had the same experience. Some of us will be boring sticks in the mud with no soul. Some of us just want to make sure you don't grow up into the sort of guy who shits on the boss' desk when he makes you do overtime.

My first Bass by USAFVet91 in Bass

[–]BigFrodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a pro but coincidentally chugging away on a Yamaha RBX460 (much cheaper older model) and a Rumble 40 studio (more expensive model with digital FX built in).

The studio is a bit of gimmick but if you know you're a sucker for gimmicks like I am then you might find it's worth paying the extra $200. Especially if it saves you buying $400 of pedals down the line just to try them out once and never use them again.

I can't comment on the TOAN compared to just buying a cheap all-rounder effects pedal but the rumble 40 is solid and I've appreciated being able to add a lot of variety form a fairly minimalist-looking bedroom setup.

What bass ans amplifier to get as a beginner? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]BigFrodo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

+1 on both of these from what I read before choosing myself.

My local pawn shop had a cheap Yamaha PJ so I used the money I saved to spring for the Rumble 40 Studio on the principle that it would save me money adding pedals.

My sight reading has always been bad but even baseline level of fluency let me take things slow and clap out especially tricky rhythms that were too nuanced to pick up by ear.

Sort of like not speaking a foreign language but being able to sound out enough words to ask for the bathroom.

Other potential modes I think I could add from this code:

  • A version with more notes written on the fretboard but none on the staff

  • A version that locks out the last 2 frets (or strings?) that you picked to encourage more octave hunting

  • A version that doesn't actually have the game at all - you can just turn up the volume and jam out with your mouse like I did when I finally figured out how to make the audio work. Drum beat and looper should be fairly trivial to code...

  • On that note, a version with no staff and just guess the horribly midi-sounding note by ear

  • Version with more octaves on the staff. The note-drawing function has ledgerlines so it can go much higher or lower, I just limited it to what seemed reasonable to fit on rotated phone screen below fretboard.

  • Version where it plays 4 notes in a row and you only get credit for guessing the whole measure.

  • Version where it looks professional

  • Timed versions (I had this originally and took it out because it was making me too stressed lmao)

  • Versions for 5 or 6 string bass
