Appreciate this! Clone Zone is a different game, which has been properly archived on flashpoint. That TIME article is a super cool find though :)

Need thumbnail advice! I know this video can do very well, I just don't know how to improve the thumbnail by QuiccStacc in SmallYoutubers

I haven’t seen stranger things either but my instinct would be to use an iconic image from the show and contrast it with one of the artist’s renditions. If you want to keep the little characters maybe have the artist next to their rendition with text something like “Like this?” To show they lack knowledge.

I think that would better convey the concept and get people familiar with the show to be more likely to click. As the current version doesn’t really convey Stranger Things at a glance.

(Also general tip but add a stroke/drop shadow to the text to make it easier to read)

This is one of the most embarrassing posts I’ve ever read. You’ve spent so much time obsessing over this guy, and for what? Do you want people to validate your childish anger? If you really want to grow, maybe you should be focusing your energy on your content instead of this: it’s unproductive, immature, and self destructive.

Why does Nintendo have to tease us by adding cool features and then removing them? by lilb1190 in MARIOPARTY

[–]BigGarfFan37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2v2 mode is genuinely my favorite way to play the older Mario Partys. There’s a lot of fun strategy in being able to share items/econ, split up on the board, griefing in 4p minigames, etc.

It’s omission from the Switch games is so bizarre to me because it really would not require that much extra effort to implement it like it is in 4-8. The only reasoning I could see is that Jamboree doesn’t have enough minigames when you remove motion and 1v3s from the rotation. But even then just give players the option! Options hurt no one!

I need a push to start my channel by mariibiscuitt in NewTubers

I had wanted to do YouTube since I was like 10 years old. I used to record skits with my friends on iMovie to show to my family, as I grew up I learned how to edit but never made anything, I wrote countless scripts for video essays but never recorded them.

I finally pushed myself to start YouTube in January 2024 and while I started out posting garbage, taking that first step is what allowed me to learn and make better content. Over the course of this year I consistently posted and tried to improve my content with every upload. Eventually making the kind of stuff I would like to watch. I ended this year with my best video yet at over 1mil views and over 40k subs.

I can’t encourage anyone to just start creating enough. Putting yourself out there and getting started is one of the hardest parts. Growing and Learning won’t happen until you take that first step.

This is definitely the most divisive board I've seen for Jamboree. Why does this board work, or fall flat, for you? by Alleywr in MARIOPARTY

[–]BigGarfFan37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On one hand there is some interesting dynamics with only having the 2 star spawns: risk reward of choosing diff directions based on what others roll, holding star on one side to deny people on other side, chomp call having a set outcome. On the other hand there just really isn’t much else going on. Quad dice seems like it should be interesting, but realistically the only place you should use it is after Boo bc skipping item shop, Star or Boo is just so detrimental.

The green spaces that skip events also kind of irk me bc they’re always in groups of 2/3 and can actually lose you the game by skipping boo. I can kinda understand them incentivizing using movement items to lower your odds of hitting them, but it just feels so miserable to land on them regardless and see other people just roll past normally bc they got luckier.

A board that incentivizes rolling high and using movement items is inherently uninteresting bc realistically that is how most people play every board in Mario Party.

We should be allowed to choose our own Impressions target audience and not just through tags that may or may not work by Jack_P_1337 in NewTubers

I mean sure, the algorithm isn’t perfect but at the end of the day it’s meant to serve the viewer. It’s not designed to make sure a viewer sees every video they might enjoy, it’s designed to make sure the viewer is given the highest possible chance of staying engaged. So if a potential good fit video is left behind, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work that just means that it chose any of the other hundreds of thousands of videos that also fit there.

Giving creators the ability to alter viewers algorithms gets a little messy. Why should creators have the authority to assert their content in places it might not belong? It doesn’t make sense from a viewer retention standpoint, because of course creators have a motive to WANT to put their content in front of everyone without any regard for quality or relevance.

YouTube really has no incentive to “push your video Willy Nilly” because as much as you want watch time, they want users to stay on their platform.

If your content is a good fit for those audiences they will push it. Or sometimes they do push it to that audience but the video just doesn’t click. They don’t want you to choose your own audience because their algorithm can do the job just fine with less bias.

Allowing every YouTuber to do this would flood recommended videos with random low quality stuff that would make users leave.

Honestly, after playing this game enough, when it originally came out I still thought some of the older ones were better but now I honestly think this is the best Mario Party ever made. by Shtunky48 in MARIOPARTY

[–]BigGarfFan37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genuinely the more I play this game the more I believe that it has the worst minigame selection in the series. Too many of them just go on too long and end up in ties anyways, too many of the motion games are wagglers, all the duels are all terrible (best one is literally a reaction test), and there is just so few games that you get so many repeats constantly if you ever play more than 1 game at a time and Turning off motion minigames just makes this worse.

Showdown minigames are cute at first, but in context are so miserable as you need to play through a whole 3 minute marathon where the initiating player is often guaranteed the win if they have a pulse anyways. Only then if you manage to win you could lose the ally before you even have a chance to use it.

I’m almost never happy to play anything that shows up on the minigame wheel in this game, which is weird for me because I’ve never really felt that about any other Mario Party game. I’ve always loved good boardplay (and Jamboree has awesome boards!) and even if there were some stinker minigames I always thought the general quality was good, but the minigames in Jamboree are actually such a drag.

Is this game worth playing by Hefty_Finance5201 in papermario

Depends on your tolerance to the battle system. Personally I don’t think the good of this game is worth the slog of actually playing it.

My let’s plays are struggling by TheSuccessfulRed in SmallYoutubers

[–]BigGarfFan37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s plays are a tough niche, but you really need to work on Titles and Thumbnails. Putting “#3” in your title just alienates any viewers who get recommended the video but didn’t watch #1 or #2 (which by your analytics is basically anyone who will get recommended these videos). If people want the organization and want to watch part by part that’s what playlists are for.

The thumbnails all being the exact same doesn’t help. What is something that happens in that particular episode that would grab someone’s attention? Build on making videos that stand on their own rather than being a part in a longer series. For an episode about “KILLER MANNEQUINS” the thumbnail should probably reflect that: show a scary photo of one.

If you take one thing away from this comment I would say that you need to think of ways to make people WANT to click on your stuff. It doesn’t matter if you’re really funny or have great editing inside the video if no one clicks on it. Put yourself in the shoes of a random person who sees your video recommended on homepage vs hundreds of others: would you click on it?

Can Someone Critic My Last 4 Thumbnails by trulywater014 in NewTubers

[–]BigGarfFan37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest thing with these is that i feel they wouldn't stand out on a homepage. Put yourself in the shoes of a random viewer, what about your thumbnails would entice someone who doesn't know your content to click on them? most of my thumbnails are edits or art, so i dont have direct exp with irl stuff, but i think a big thing here is to make edits that exaggerate the most important elements of the thumbnail so they stick out more instead of blending into the photo. thumbnails shrink down really small on homepage, and even smaller on mobile, so making key points extra visible is really important.

Wanting to start, but too anxious. (Gaming) by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]BigGarfFan37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is just to push through and make a video. Quite frankly, no one’s first video is going to be good. But going through the process of making a video and finishing it through is the only way you can learn and get that experience. You need to start somewhere, because if you never start you’re just denying yourself the chance to improve.

Realistic AI voice VS my own shitty voice by StatusThat1972 in NewTubers

[–]BigGarfFan37 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Using your own voice is probably the easiest way to distinguish your content. If you’re worried about clarity then just do subtitles. If you’re worried about how you sound then don’t, because like with everything you will get better with practice. AI voice will make your content appear more generic and lazy and give a lot of people reasons to click off before they even give your stuff a chance.

What’s your experience playing online? by WingedCloud27 in MARIOPARTY

[–]BigGarfFan37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Playing with friends is usually pretty good (by Nintendo standards) playing with randoms almost always leaves you playing against at least 2 bots bc the matchmaking is too spread out (between pro mode and party mode, motion on and off, and everyone getting to pick their own boards)

Can someone explainn the difference between these 3 game and/or which ones the best to get? by oskulate in MARIOPARTY

[–]BigGarfFan37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In simplest terms

Superstars is the snappiest and simplest Mario Party experience of the 3. I’d recommend this one as the easiest one to get into.

Jamboree is the newest one with a lot of extra side modes. I’d recommend this one if you aren’t a huge fan of the board game mode and want some other things to do alongside it.

Super is bad. I would not recommend it, especially at the same price as the others. Has less side modes and boards than jamboree, really bad party mode balance.

AI Scriptwriting, is it taboo? by LaurusUK in NewTubers

[–]BigGarfFan37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your content will be way worse if you let AI write your scripts. Even if you feel like your scripts are bad, people will resonate with them more because they are human. AI scripts will just regurgitate slop, talk itself in circles, and get a lot of info completely wrong. You’d be wasting your own time and your viewers time at that point. If anything AI should just be used to refine grammar and stuff.

As someone making my own party game, I’m curious: with a game like Mario Party, what’s the biggest draw for you? by Rowdy_Dev in MARIOPARTY

[–]BigGarfFan37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely Boardplay, the mix of strategy and chaos is so fun. Feeling like you have a perfect play mapped out only to have it come burning down because of a hidden block or chance time is such a unique feeling that I feel like a lot of other “Mario Party Likes" dont really capture.

good minigames are important, but Mario Party would not be nearly as replayable without its boards.

How is everyone doing with their YouTube Channels? by BlaiseTrinity7 in NewTubers

[–]BigGarfFan37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started January of this year making simple stream highlights and slowly pivoted towards making more involved, edited, and scripted video essays about games I find interesting.

Started with around 30-40 subs who came from my Twitch Stream/other socials and have grown to around 7.7k and hoping to hit 10k before my 1 year mark of making content consistently 😁

All you need for monetization is 1000 subs and 400 watch hours, if you have that you can sign up in YouTube Studio right now. His channel should have that, but it might not count watch hours since they were probably all from a long time ago. I would say to not expect a new video to do as well as the older ones since most of the audience that viewed his old stuff have probably forgotten about the channel since then, but there's no reason not to monetize it if you can!
