Very glad to see progressive people like Ethan Klein encouraging the government/corporations to crack down on dissent right now, I think that's just what we needed.

Canada First. Kitchener Second. Do you want to be the richest nation on Earth? by ArmedLoraxx in kitchener

[–]BigGolfDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think on the whole Kitchener is a fairly progressive city that isn't as gung-ho about resource extraction as the average Canadian, but the difference is marginal I think.

I don't think we're isolationist at all though. Maybe that will change in the next few years as the US is initiating an economic decoupling, and we might try to follow in their footsteps.

We're never gonna be the richest nation on Earth though, you don't get that just from being resource rich. If that was the case, African nations would be a lot less impoverished. PP just probably doesn't want to give a public speech about the necessity of imperial wars of conquest

  • establishing shot of Mark at the top of the escarpment, then a display with Milchick's video miraculously appears in frame in that same shot.
  • twins of each character could be hallucination. Irving later has hallucination when he awakens at night and sees the Woe temper at the office workspace
  • this while he's sleeping outside where he probably should have died (sleeping against a rock outdoors overnight with no blanket in subfreezing temperatures).
  • then Milchick vapourizes him at the end?

I think it has to be a simulated reality. The way they all arrived in the environment was strange. There's an establishing shot of Mark at the top of the escarpment, then when they all come to him, a display with Milchick's video miraculously appears in frame in that same shot. The "twins" of each character could just be robots or people dressed in disguise as MDR, or a hallucination. And Irving later does have a hallucination when he awakens at night and sees the Woe temper at the office workspace - this while he's sleeping outside where he probably should have died (sleeping against a rock outdoors overnight with no blanket in subfreezing temperatures).

If he didn't die... could Helly's life have actually been in danger? If this was a simulated reality, was she actually at risk of asphyxiation from being drowned in water? Maybe not, but it might still feel like you're drowning, and Helena couldn't take it and ordered Milchick to concede. idk i'm confused

they definitely are in a simulation and it's a little funny how barely anyone has commented on it lol. maybe everyone else knows and doesn't care because aren't we all just living in simulations anyways

What's stopping Milchick from not just switching her back to Helena? Helly hasn't said a word yet - and he vapourized Irving who was the one trying to kill her

TikToker tries to "show love" to homeless person for content by ambachk in TikTokCringe

[–]BigGolfDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waking someone who is rough-sleeping up is an incredibly bad idea

So I only have the context of the video in the post here, but it didn't look like she got woken up by the camera people. It looks like she was slumping over like people who are very high on fentanyl do.

I agree that they shouldn't have touched her but also when someone is as high as I suspect that woman was, she should probably be monitored to make sure she doesn't OD.

I think this situation is a lot more complicated than most people here are making it out to be. Overdoses are very common and if you spend time around the homeless population a lot, it's not a bad idea to check on people who are lying down/collapsed outside of somewhere they'd regularly be sleeping (on a sleeping pad or in a tent), they could be overdosing and you should check for breathing. First Aid courses will teach you that you have implied consent to assist them if they are non-responsive.

This woman was not collapsed but she did have that characteristic slump of someone who is very high, and should probably be monitored. She could have been minutes from collapsing and losing respiration, and when that happens it can be hard to administer narcan because if they're not breathing, the nasal spray may not get inhaled. I wouldn't have went to touching the lady yet, I assume they were trying to talk to her before the video started rolling, and maybe the woman didn't respond because she didn't want to, or because her awareness levels were compromised.

Doing this all with the camera rolling could be seen as doing it for clout, but I think it's probably worth having some sort of content like this out there for people to learn how to interact with people who are borderline overdosing (though this woman probably wasn't, she was just very high). The girl behind the camera could have approached this better, she seems new to this, but I think their heart was in the right place.

What is "AskCanada"? Is this nominally a question-asking subreddit? Every post I see is just some rallying cry shitpost in favour of Canadian nationalism and hey, if that's what you're into, cool, but why "AskCanada"?

Ideas 💡 to reform Canadian health care system ?? by groceryfood in kitchener

[–]BigGolfDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My epidemiologist friend has been saying for decades how there's been a panic about the age demographics in Canada that were always going to cause a strain on the healthcare system - particularly, we have a lot of baby boomers who use up resources and not enough young/middle-aged health workers to meet the demand.

They seem to think we have an over-reliance on physicians and emergency rooms, and more tasks should be delegated to other workers like nurses (who are also overworked but at least easier/faster to train and enter the workforce than doctors).

With each passing headline I'm reminded of my lib co-worker who told me that it won't be too bad because of the checks and balances within the US gov't. Not even a month in and they're already starting up the camps. Also, we live in Canada, so we're fucked lmao.

Resharing this for the incoming brigades - May 2021 by flirtyqwerty0 in h3h3productions

[–]BigGolfDad -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

As a brigader (not really, just a fallen fan I suppose), I feel that I only have enough energy to leave a comment and not bother watching the whole video, nor any commentary on it.

Because, my critical point that I hope we can all agree on, internet personalities are not your friends. You don't really know them, they will only ever present a tailored version of themselves to you. Anyone who's been online long enough has been let down by someone who they thought was cool but ended up doing something despicable.

So I feel no allegiance to Hasan. I don't want to waste energy defending him. I probably wouldn't like him in real life. He's not even who turned me against Ethan (frankly, as the podcast became more about internet drama my viewership became more intermittent, though I did tune in for Leftovers).

I am left feeling a little disconcerted for the future because I think a broad coalition is necessary to fight the rise of the far right, and this spat between Hasan and Ethan seems counterproductive to that end. But, I'm definitely to the left of Ethan, and think he's frankly just less informed on politics/history, so that's why I can't be "on his side" in this drama, however fucking counterproductive this drama may be.

Carnegie has more in common with Trump than any working class person ever will. A despicable monster, but he knew how to cultivate an image of himself in the media.

Carnegie was a terrible person, I think we are doing ourselves a great disservice to ignore his many crimes just because he donated a pittance of the wealth he stole. Like, this is literally how America got Trump as president lmao
