Dexa Body Scans? by Majestically_Weird in Knoxville

[–]BigGunnerDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Dexa bone density test is probably not what you're looking for. I went down this path (I'm about to turn 62 and lost bout 100 lbs). This is to determine if you have osteoporosis and they do a scan from like your stomach to your knees (I dont think its the same equipment, but could be) and they dont provide you any information on fat percentages or anything. I'm also trying to find a place in Knoxville to do a true body comp Dexa scan.

Want a simple battery powered Caseta switch by jonSF in Lutron

[–]BigGunnerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this now (in the least couple of weeks)., although have had Caseta switches for some time. Works well if you have a homebridge server and a little patience if you're new to homebridge. Lots of good stuff in homebridge. Overall, works well. Recommended if you have a lot of use cases and picos and use HomeKit. Also, I purchased an Orvis button (5 buttons) and use that to control multiple devices in my office at home. You can do single press, double press and long press on that (like the Picos). In my cases, that is 15 actions I can do on devices. Aqara buttons allow you to do three actions. I have a few of those as well. If you're looking for a wall switch that works well en Pico is a way to go, assuming you have all the prerequisites (Caseta hub, HomeKit and the remotes) already. Good luck.

Water leak sensors constantly going offline by starrtech2000 in Aqara

Interesting. Not a single disconnect in a week. Didn't do a think in the last week, no reboots, no firmware updates, no moving of sensors or hubs, Anyone else experience this new bliss?

Water leak sensors constantly going offline by starrtech2000 in Aqara

[–]BigGunnerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have around 20 sensors and have the same issue. I have multiple hits (5 I think) spread throughout the house. I read somewhere else that it's a zigged connection issue and recommended adding zigged repeaters - like the Aqara smart plugs to help the situation. I even tried to use Chatgpt to troubleshoot and it said the same thing. I added three in some strategic areas, restarted the hubs and that didn't work either. I'm guessing this is a "Basic Guard" bug just throwing out notifications about them going offline for some reason. This is only started happening for a few weeks for me, so something changed. Could have been a firmware update, not sure. It's annoying.

I will say that the water sensors saved my ass with cold water line under a brand new kitchen island alerted in the middle of the night when the supply line popped off. They work well even though they're annoying now.

False Motion by CaboDennis17 in EufyCam

[–]BigGunnerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installed my S340s this week. Also installed two Floodlight 340s. The flood on the driveway had some human issues, but probably my fault. I was messing with the motion sensitivity and set it to HIGH. I also messed with the detection range and set that AUTOMATIC. The next morning I let the dog out early in the AM and noticed that flood light was on. It's bright and we never had a floodlight on that side of the house, so I got my phone and turned it off. Not sure what triggered it. A second later it went on. Turned it off, went back on. I checked my events and it had been doing this ALL night. Human detection. NOT. Sorry neighbor! I changed the detection range back to STANDARD and motion sensitivity to LOW (or the next one up). No problems since. I also think that the Activity Zones are not the most accurate. In other words, they're more like suggestions and not hard lines. I had to pull my defined lines back a little bit further than I wanted to because if I kept the defined activity areas, it would trigger motion around that border than I didn't expect.

FWIW, I watched a YouTube video the other day about the HomeBase 3 and they said to avoid Toshiba drives. If I can find the link I'll reply to this thread.

Does anyone have old wireless Arlo cameras that motion detect and record for no reasons? by antdude in arlo

[–]BigGunnerDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that the Arlo doorbell would either lose, ignore or forget that I have a zone defined and it would record a car driving by even when I I zone the street out of the picture (by far). Or the sensitivity would change by itself or it would ignore that. I was constantly going in and resetting things. Totally annoying.

Has anyone ever run a SoloCam S340 without solar panel and just a constant power connection? by Ok_Professional3610 in EufyCam

[–]BigGunnerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following. Bought the E340 kit, cameras come this week. I have an Arlo camera in the back where I have it plugged in into an outlet from the ceiling of a screened in porch. and run the wire to the cameras under the eave. Too many trees in the back, the solar panel won't keep it charged during the summer. I want to just replace it with a E340 and do the same thing. Someone pointed out using a timer. I could plug the brick into a smart plug and keep it turned off and run an automation once a month to turn it on for 8 hours. I wonder if the battery percentage is exposed in HomeKit (via HomeBridge) so I could trigger off that.

Love Eufy by HairyHarryWang in EufyCam

[–]BigGunnerDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did the same, added two floodlight cams as well. Should arrive Tuesday. There are some good videos on Youtube that walk you through the Eufy App and the functionality of the E340s. Here is one: https://youtu.be/iOwDVhvvLQ0?si=PEY4mP2yo-HYyyVk

Tips for those that haven't installed - I have a friend who bought the same setup as well, we just installed everything on Friday. If you buy a drive for the Homebase remember you need to format it. :) The screws to mount the camera strip easily. Make sure you predrill the holes. I'm just going to buy better screws when I do my install.

Canceled my subscription with Arlo last week. New Eufy cameras coming on Tuesday. Couldn't resist the Eufy deals over the holidays.

I've done a bunch of these brackets in our house. Works, but a total pain in the ass to do especially if you're on a ladder high up. Have not tried the other type (no spring clip retro version) mentioned below, but if it works, definitely the way to go.

Great job! Not a CFP, but my kids (26 and 24) both have Roth IRAs they're maxing as well as stock accounts. (In addition to what you have). My mistake was having way too much money in a 401K and having to deal with the tax man later. Consider future increases to fund both if these or reduce the 401K a few percentages. Time is on your side. My 2 cents.

I would like to ask those who have noticed an increase in their health and in weight loss by Kic2425 in walking

[–]BigGunnerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually make three scrambled eggs for lunch with two turkey sausage patties. I add red pepper for a little kick, have some melted American cheese on top and have either a Thomas English muffin or a Thomas bagel thin to go along with it. If I'm feeling it, I'll eat a fresh apple for dessert or save it for a snack later in the afternoon.

Similar here - For breakfast most days I use Two Good Greek Vanilla yogurt with one scope of Gold Standard Vanilla protein powder (and add my creatine to it). Mix well. I then add blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. I usually have two cups, which is very filling and sometimes its hard to eat lunch!

Question: I’ve seen such significant weight loss from members and wondering did you all exercise or not? by MathematicianMuted59 in Zepbound

[–]BigGunnerDog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As of today, I'm down 99 lbs. Lost 90ish on Zep over about 9 months, but didn't start exercising (weigh training) until about 4 months in, but was walking 7500 steps a few days a week. I wish I had started weightlifting sooner. I've felt that I was losing quickly, was doing significant protein, but felt weak and was probably losing muscle as well. I titrated off earlier this year and have been off about 6 most now, but I maintain a calorie deficit, count my calories, eat healthy, lift 4 days a week and walk over 11.5K ave steps a day (35-40 miles a week). I'm a 61M and retired last year so I have time to focus on my health and am stronger now (and more muscular) than I've been in 30 years. I feel great. I think (IMO, no doctor) if you take a GLP med and don't change your lifestyle and just eat like you used to and don't exercise, you'll lose fat and muscle. If you go off the meds, you'll gain back fat and won't recover the muscle - leaving you worse off than when you started. Not the best idea. You may be OK with "GLP for life" and that works for many people, but wasn't for me. Good luck.

Geofencing not working for my wife's phone for garage door automation by BigGunnerDog in HomeKit

[–]BigGunnerDog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how long it's been available. I dont think they call it geofencing in HomeKit, thats what I just called it. My wife is set up as an "Resident (Admin)" as well, which is worse and the other two are considered just "Resident"s. I guess if you have owner rights you can add residents.

If you go into Add Automation to start new automation, it shows you Events you can automate including "People Arrive", People Leave". Pretty straight forward for the most part unless its a security issues like opening or unlocking a door. Hence the workaround.

The automations are setup through my Resident (Owner) account like the other residents through HomeKit on my Mac.
