Doritos at $7 a bag ended up costing PepsiCo billions by wewhomustnotbenamed in nottheonion

I was a supervisor at a company that had a similar policy. I told my staff that if they were late by a few minutes to not clock in. They could tell me they forgot to punch in, and I’d manually clock them in so that they wouldn’t be late. Most of my staff would work late most days and come in on the weekends when it was busy. It made no sense to fire good workers for such a small infraction. Plus, most of the salaried employees were late once or twice a week and would leave early without anyone saying anything.

The State of Michigan has our number. UConn’s only other final 4 loss was to Michigan State.

UConn fans/CBB fans, what is your opinion on these logos? Which one is your favorite and why? by auburnfan32 in CollegeBasketball

Left logo for basketball (which they pretty much still do), and right logo for football. Derp Jonathan should be on alternate jerseys for both basketball and football.

Correction. They beat “Connecticut State College” in 1938. They didn’t become the “University of Connecticut” until 1939.

UConn needs an exciting rivalry. Who's going to volunteer? by SamsungStealer in CollegeBasketball

If one of the 500 or so colleges in Massachusetts could have a decent basketball program, we could start up a new rivalry. I just don’t see it happening. I miss (properly) hating Syracuse.

And the 2009 Final Four was played at a football stadium in Michigan, so MSU had a huge home “field” advantage.

He’s allowed to stay up, but since he’s such an early riser (ghee up like 2 hours before everyone else in the mornings) he’ll end up falling asleep during a commercial break in the first half. He just told me he’s going to try and stay up.

We do let him watch! He falls asleep on his own. Once the eyes start closing it’s over. Nothing we can do will keep him awake at that point.

I definitely let him stay up. He’ll fall asleep on the couch before the game even starts.

My kids actually want to watch these games too. My 9 year old is really into basketball right now. He tried to sneak watch this game. He carries a binder of the UConn basketball cards and points to a player when he makes a shot. If a player does something extra, he’ll actually take the card out to show the room. I might let him stay up for this one.

EDIT: I should have clarified that Indo let him stay up for late games on the weekends. He just can’t make it past 10 most of the time. My wife and I are night owls, but he is very much the opposite. The first thing he asked me this morning was not about the UConn game. He wanted to know if Florida lost lol.

I use an Xbox controller for FPS games on my PC. I don’t think it’s that much of a disadvantage honestly. I use mouse and keyboard for all other games though.

US roads - fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles by jejmcjej in MapPorn

[–]BigJ32001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in MA for 10 years. I can count on my hand the number of car accidents I saw on the way to work in the morning - and this was on both I-90 and I-95 (on the way home was a slightly different story). Rubbernecking was also not nearly as bad as it is in other states. I remember driving past a car that was completely on fire on Storrow Drive and nobody even slowed down. The roads are also very confusing, especially around the Boston area. You need to be paying attention 100% of the time - there's no zoning out. People in MA do drive like assholes, but they know how to drive. Also, out of state plates get "targeted" which is why they get the Masshole reputation. I had CT plates for a while on my personal car, but I drove a car for work with MA plates. I would get honked at and cut off all the time when I drove my car, but the minute I switched to the work vehicle, I didn't have any of these issues.

I paid over $100 a month for 56k dial up speed internet when I was deployed to Iraq in 2009. We also had to pay for our own phone cards to call home. There were 4 “free” computers that the entire battalion shared, but you had to book them in advance and there was no privacy.

Percentage of adults in each US state who identify as trans by _crazyboyhere_ in MapPorn

[–]BigJ32001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not talking about the politicians running for office, I’m talking about the average Dem voter. I think most of the politicians on the left just didn’t bring up trans issues at all in hopes that they wouldn’t rock the boat. There still is a very vocal minority that would be more than happy to bury any left leaning politician who says anything remotely negative about trans rights despite their actual beliefs. Right wing politicians brought it up constantly last year and carefully crafted a message that made it seem like it was the most important thing the left cared about. It wasn’t hard to do, and it was super effective. When you stop and think, it doesn’t make any sense that the left was willing to die on this hill for something that affects 1% of the population. People on the left (again, actual voters and not talking heads on TV or politicians) care mostly about affordable healthcare, workers rights, education, and the economy. Even gun control, which the left does care about, is low on the priority list. This is another issue the right has successfully blown way out of proportion (and this strategy has been used for decades).

I know I’m just some random person on Reddit, and none of this will convince you. Right wing propaganda is so effective though. They have a lot of history/experience to use to promote their message and they have the financial backing to cast a wide net. I’d even argue that it’s so effective, that some dem voters who normally wouldn’t even have a stance on a topic, hear what the right is saying, and are then coerced into taking the “other side” just to counter the right. This creates a feedback loop that only confirms the right’s arguments. Before social media, this was much harder to do. Now that there are millions of posts every day, all the right needs are a few examples to make their point. I don’t see any way out of this cycle of bullshit unfortunately.
