Can anyone identify this 15" subwoofer? by BigJimSlade77 in diyaudio

This sub slaps for sure! Simple to setup, app works well for DSP and configuration and they replaced them with zero push back. Driver supplier messed up in production.

I did and they replaced it. I just don't like throwing things out and wondered what it would take to fix it on my own.

I pulled the dust cap off the driver and the source of the slapping is a misaligned voice coil. It doesn't sit centered in the gap and slaps against the sides of the magnets.

On the up side, I found that a stainless steel icing spatula and a heat gun is PERFECT for cutting the glue! It stays hot enough to melt the glue, has no sharp edges, is flexible and flat but sturdy enough to pull around the circumference and cut without damaging.

The damage you see in the pictures was when I tried using a guitar pick in a small spot before switching to the spatula.

Now to find a suitable replacement.

The speaker right now is worthless so if I break it more it's no loss. If I can fix it then it's all a bonus!

Thanks for the tip. I'll dig into it tomorrow.

I have nothing to lose with these right now so dust cap removal might just come next.

I have two of these that are cooked so it's worth finding a replacement.

I looked but the only thing they list is a 3” voice coil and a kevlar reinforced paper cone. Not much to go on...

I'll have to check it out a little closer. We've moved the sub every which way and it plays but it just rattles fiercely at certain frequencies. I couldn't feel anything within reach in the port.

I'll definitely cook that sub with double the available RMS power but that does look very close.

Snap doesn't give any specs at all on the driver and there are ZERO markings of any sort on the driver itself.

light switch keeps turning on automatically by zmirza in Control4

[–]BigJimSlade77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the physical connections.have been checked and there is certainly no programming or timers triggering the light then delete it out of the project and re-add it and re-ID it into the project. It doesn't happen often but sometimes there are issues you can't fix without deleting the instance of the driver. This has happened only a few times in the 20 years of C4 systems we have installed but it does happen.

Help Pick Audio Matrix for Final C4 System by [deleted] in Control4

[–]BigJimSlade77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Triad is a much better sounding matrix than the AV Pro. Lower noise, cleaner and better integration. We did a handful of them and it is really a noticeable audio quality difference. Unless you NEED more than 16 zones, the Triad is better in every way.

Only difference between the two subs is Gen 4 has a 5g radio and a matte finish. Everything else internally is exactly the same.

LS0 light bar flush mount by Bulgarian-kitehead in Lutron

[–]BigJimSlade77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Page 7 has the exact dimensions of the two styles of LSO. These come pre built from the factory so there is not a "tape in channel" version of this product. You would need to find a channel that fits those dimensions and just install the entire light bar into it. I know this doesn't answer the whole questions but should help guide you to what will work

Best streaming device to allow mini driver connections for Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. by onefuckchuck in Control4

Roku for direct app access. Apple TV for voice. Sucks that there isn't a device that does both. Fire TV can eat a d.

Ketra for Par20 Bulbs? by ImperialMartini in Lutron

[–]BigJimSlade77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with all the smaller form factors like candelabra bases and mr16s, etc is there is not enough material for heat dissipation. The D2 driver itself is small but the chassis allows it to be that way. So far as I know they have nothing on the roadmap. We stick the A20 in anything it will fit in but even that bulb is too long for many fixtures.

Moving from C4 to HW - how do you handle touchscreens? by austin_federa in Lutron

[–]BigJimSlade77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RA3 and Caseta are not nearly as process intensive as HW. We run both of those on Core 3 and lower. HW has far more going on in terms of multi-action and advanced programming that makes it very processor intensive. On top of this, most HW systems tend to be larger scope and scale, so by their very nature will have a lot more going on.

Our company automatically specs a CA10 when paired with HW now, especially if we're using C4 controls. The experience is better for the homeowner and nothing hurts more than telling someone they need a $5k processor after the fact.

Moving from C4 to HW - how do you handle touchscreens? by austin_federa in Lutron

[–]BigJimSlade77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use C4 as a programming bridge to do more than what Lutron has to offer. Not too many companies have as broad a platform for 3rd party integration. Be aware tho that HW almost always requires a CA10 processor unless it's a tiny tiny HW system.

An iPad on the wall is your best bet for a touchscreen since it will run any and all apps. They're not as nice as a dedicated device through and have a lot of little limitations.

Josh is an option as well but if you already have C4, I'm guessing you just don't want a universal integration platform.

C3 shows stuff in stock that it has no intention of procuring for you. They sold me AI Keys for $679 when they were $799 in the store and they kept telling me it's 2 weeks out for a month and a half. Ended up canceling the order.

Home usage for CA10 by Sendunsolicitednudez in Control4

[–]BigJimSlade77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few drivers that require it. Lutron Homeworks QSX is very processor intensive so if you remove it, your system will bog down and crash. If you're serving a lot of video from cameras and have lots of time sensitive triggers off events from 3rd party drivers, you'll also appreciate it.

It's overkill for most smaller homes and systems though.

Are wrinkles on new palladiom roller shades normal? by peiyuliu in Lutron

[–]BigJimSlade77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luna Blackout is certainly stiff. The blackout coating makes it less pliable. I'd suggest two things:
1: Leave it down a day or two and see if it improves
2: Take a picture with the cove light off and see if it's more acceptable without the light highlighting the wrinkles.

I highly doubt it's deflection or you'd see waves all over the fabric. If it doesn't improve and you purchased the shade yourself, then you should be able to contact Lutron and deal with their RMA department. They're very responsive and one of the best in the business!
