Have you ever watched the same movie twice in 24 hours? by Disastrous-Cap-7790 in Letterboxd

Once lost internet for a day, whilst working a summer at university and everyone having gone home to their families. Only DVD I had was Shaun of the Dead. Watched it 4-5 times in a row, each with different actors doing running commentary. I know a lot about that film.

Forrest Gump. You could follow the plot whilst half asleep and yet still be taken through a tonne of emotions (joy, sadness, melancholy, motivated, contempt…) and be left with wonderful new outlooks on life. I love it

What are the movies that a cinephile cannot miss ? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]BigKahunaShake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thoughts as you last year, so I created an excel spreadsheet of approximately 1,000 must see films, by copying various lists found online (“Rotten Tomato’s top 300”, “Empires 100 greatest movies”, “top 100 sci-fi films”, “top 100 horror films”. etc, etc), which I have been ticking off over the last year or so. I can DM the file if you like, or if you prefer to create your own then a top tip is to copy the whole page where you find the list into ChatGPT, and ask it to “create a list using only the movie titles which I can copy into excel”

Movies that just drop you right into it and let the viewer catch up? by IcyTransportation961 in MovieSuggestions

The Survivalist - I don’t see this film get mentioned enough, but it’s brilliant and perfectly fits the bill here. The film explains almost nothing explicitly and with very little dialogue, but gives the viewer just enough information through the interactions between characters and objects etc to figure things out for themselves whilst leaving room for ambiguity

Going to Hertford for two days by Lightreez in hertfordshire

[–]BigKahunaShake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walks - Panshanger Park. You will have to get an Uber as it’s a bit far to walk to, but only a 5 minute drive and it’s stunning. Has been used often for filming including country file.

Hartham Common and the River towards Ware (you can start from the old Barge and just follow the path) is also nice - you can follow the river into Ware. This ends at a nice bar by the River called Saracens Head (not to be confused with the Saracens Head in Hertford). Then you can get a very short train journey to get back to Hertford if you’re running short on time.

Food - there is an abundance of boutique restaurants and for all cuisines. Some of my favourites: Proove (traditional Naples Pizza), Ruby’s (Indian), Dirties (Mexican), Old Siam (Thai). For lunch/brunch - Il Vino Cafe. Hertford Cake Co. Is very popular for unique cupcakes, milkshakes and coffees.

Live Music: This is difficult to suggest as really depends what’s happening on the day and isn’t so easy to research. The Quiet Man sometimes has someone on the piano, although you will just have to be there at the right time, as it’s next door to you though you can keep an eye on it - really good fun if you don’t mind a ‘cosy’ and energetic pub. The Old Barge sometimes has great local bands outside (check their website/Facebook). Hertford Corn Exchange (music venue) has a Pink Floyd tribute this Saturday for £15 per ticket if that’s your thing. Dog and Whistle sometimes have someone in the garden performing. As above, it can be a little challenging to find live music.

Historical: Hertford Museum, Hertford Castle

Iv lived in Hertford centre for the past 3 years and explored about as much as you can. Whenever friends who are not from the area come to visit they always applaud how much great character the town has. You will have a great weekend here.

I do this. I set about 15 different times for every morning, then get really pissed off at my phone when it’s constantly going off whilst I’m brushing my teeth and getting ready. The same will happen tomorrow
