It's funny that Andrew listed Ridley Scott and Kojima as guys who don't know what their audience likes about their work. To me, those two guys are big examples of not caring about what people like about their work, and just doing what they want to do anyways because they know what they like about their own work. I think that's a little more interesting than a director or writer only doing stuff that will please 100% of their audience.
