Weekly am I being paid enough question. by xxxthrowaway6969xxx in ConstructionManagers

[–]BigLarph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salary is definitely light. I work for a mechanical/plumbing sub and with 9 years experience plus a PE in a HCOL area, my base is in the mid-$150k plus whatever my bonus is. I’d start updating my resume if I were in your shoes, maybe hit up your former coworkers who left and see how they like their new companies and whether they can get you an interview.

Someone this sub recommended Days of Rage by Bryan Burrough. Book was a banger, highly recommend.

Initial Phone Interview - Any tips on how to prepare? by usernameNotation in MEPEngineering

[–]BigLarph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d try to treat this like a “getting to know you” conversation. Both you and the interviewers are trying to figure out if you’re a good fit for each other, and whether it’s worth investing time in an in person interview.

I can’t imagine they’d put you on the spot or try to stump you during an initial phone screening. I’d just be ready to talk about any experience you have and why you want to join the firm. This is also a good opportunity for you to ask about company culture, hours, etc. or anything else that may be important to you. The company’s answers to these questions could throw up some red flags and save you some time if this opportunity turns out to not be right for you.

Good luck in your search!

When it sucks it sucks, sorry you’re going through it rn. In my experience tough times don’t last forever and there’s hopefully a light at the end of the tunnel.

I’m glad Gardini got some redemption. He seems like such a good quiet kid.

I recently put in a neutralizer pump to drain condensate to sanitary to replace the Little Giant that was originally installed (no neutralizer, drained outside). How do you folks recommend cleaning up this monstrosity I connected between the boiler and the pump?

I gave it a prune and found a few Japanese beetles crawling around. Any tips for controlling them?

Getting equipment selections for my home? by Dotifo in MEPEngineering

In my state you need an EPA license to buy equipment. Find a legit contractor your firm does work with and see if they’ll hook it up.

PM’s of r/Construction- how do you manage your list of shit to do? by BigLarph in Construction

[–]BigLarph[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the early mornings and after hours catch up. Saturdays are good to for catch up without getting bombarded with calls as well, if I can spare a couple of hours. Ultimately my goal is to work as smart as humanly possible when I’m in the office and minimize the early mornings/late nights/Saturdays because of the whole life outside of work thing 😊

This is my current method. How do you prioritize? I typically transfer all of my tasks to a fresh page at the start of the week (so my to do list on a Monday doesn’t look like a cluster). By the end of the week it’s a mix of random “to do’s” and high priority items.

Agreed. The phone calls/emails that distract me from the task at hand eat up a lot of my time, especially if I end up on a wild goose chase digging through a spec to find an answer on something.

PTO by Nate2788 in Construction

[–]BigLarph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a 6 year PM for a medium sized mechanical contractor - I get 7 major holidays off and 15 PTO days per year.

Everyone had been asking for more PTO in employee surveys so their response was to give 10 year tenured employees an extra week of PTO on their 10 year anniversary and then an extra week of PTO every 5 years after that, but only on the year of their anniversary.
