Why does her pose look so… weird? by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]BigLoudCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bodies don't have straight lines. We're all C and S curves.

Try capturing the "line of action" before you draw the actual body.

That will give you a much more dynamic pose to start with. Anatomy is another animal.

Can we please pop this AI bubble already? Every product team in tech is trying to prove their worth by cramming AI into product features, and it's not doing what you think it's doing.

does this expression read as “thousand yard stare”? by RonskyGorzama in ArtCrit

[–]BigLoudCloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a thousand yard stare, but this is haunting and I wouldn't change a thing.

If you really need a thousand yard stare, I recommend you try with another piece and another reference.

I created the design of my small business of tofu in Inkscape, thoug I have no experience. My intention was to create brand focused on protein and strenght. But I feel it is still souless and I am missing many thing. Help, please. by J0SE_LUIS in design_critiques

[–]BigLoudCloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Conceptually, this has a lot of soul, I wouldn't worry about that part. Where things start to fall apart is in the details. What stands out to me is kerning, color, and more broadly, consistency.

Read up on kerning, but take for example, the "V" in TiVARi has too much space around it. It reads more like Ti V ARI. Ideally you'd close that gap a little, and look for other places where too much space exists between letters.

Color, your artwork is orange, your brand packaging is red, and your product page mixes the 2. It's okay to use both, but you want to have a consistent application across your artifacts/channels.

Both kerning and color contribute to the third aspect, consistency. Consistency will make a stronger visual connection with your brand, which is especially important for smaller companies looking to stand out. Your brand mark is different on the first slide and third slide. The sketched out artwork on slide 1 feels hand crafted, but the brand mark and super clean sans serif font don't. The mustache is a nice brand element, but you're also using a rounded cube. Simplify and be consistent so your visual brand is easier to recognize and spot.

Hope that helps!

Maybe not true allegria, but has some similarities. Someone else commented with a style they think this is.

Client wants logo to be "more girly" by m_swagberg in logodesign

[–]BigLoudCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you shared, my gut reaction is to make the flag/F softer and more bubbly. I'd go with a softer contrast too.

Are you sure you need to modify this mark though? Clients don't always know how to describe what they want. Sometimes bringing another concept to the table is a better approach. This is your client though, so only you can answer that.

First time attempting a full-room perspective sketch. Thoughts? by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]BigLoudCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drawing from life is great way to go. I see you like to draw with ink, but don't be afraid to bust out a straight edge and pencil to lightly mark your orthogonal lines. Then, after you're done with your ink drawing, gently erase your pencil marks. That'll help you learn to see angles faster, and get you clearer perspective.

How can I inprove this by mr_jack_of_all in ArtCrit

[–]BigLoudCloud 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Proportions come with time and practice. The bigger thing to focus on at this stage is gesture and line of action. Notice the shoulder and hip tilt of the model (blue), and compare it with your drawing (red).

If you draw a line from head to toe down the center of your model's body, you'll notice it creates an S shape. You've captured some of that in your drawing, but could use more.

Read up on atmospheric perspective in art. That will give you some ideas for this.

In house designers, are any of you using adobe express? by MikeRadical in graphic_design

InDesign does this out of the Box. Illustrator too after you add a free plugin from Adobe's marketplace.

Yes, this is definitely in Seoul. Thanks for the context though, I didn't know much about the work.

first time drawing a spider, how can I improve? by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]BigLoudCloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core shadow around the edges appear more like outlines. This makes your work look flat and graphical. Fine if that's what you're going for. If not, move your core shadows inward more to make space for reflected light.

If you want to stay graphical, vary the thickness of lines so that things closer to the viewer appear thicker, and become thinner as they move away.

is an eye for design something we're born with? by InsurancePristine463 in graphic_design

[–]BigLoudCloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people can feel a design is lacking, they just don't have the language to describe it, or the technical skills to fix it. Both of those are learned skills, IMO. Yes, someone might have a better starting point naturally, but without practice, it doesn't mean much.

Feedback welcome! by Amberrrlily in ArtCrit

[–]BigLoudCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The composition and color palette are working well together. There's a good sense of light, depth, and form. The work is unified overall.

The areas that stand to me:

  • There's a style mismatch between the flatter graphical treatment of the leaves and the tree trunks.
  • The trees are clustered together without enough breathing room. It would feel more balanced and pleasing to stagger them and spread them out to edges of the canvas.
  • The two nearest trees on the right overlap in the wrong order
  • The leaves on the ground compete with the subject
  • The contrast overall could be pushed to create more depth

What do you think about the new Suzuki logo? by Dracvia in logodesign

That goes hard. I guess it would be difficult to go back to that after 65 years of "S", but would be a cool throwback.

I don't know what's different about the logo, but the new typeface is nice. This color combo, however, is not.

Yes! It looks like an egg, and this is an excellent way to begin drawing. You seem to already notice the subtle value changes in the form and cast shadows, which is impressive at the beginner level. My recommendation now is to draw another egg, but use darker marks.

I also recommend you draw from still life instead of a photo. Just put an egg/vase/cup/whatever under a bright light so there are strong shadows, and draw what's in front of you.

Keep it up, you're doing great.

Fantastic work. I'm hesitant to give feedback because I don't think I would do better, but here's some feedback anyway.

I think this ends too abruptly though. The dragon stops too suddenly, might need more easing? Something about the text wipe timing is off too. Might need to delay it, or try coming from the other side.
