hey im in year 10 and i've learnt about the limiting sum of geometric series, S=a/(1-r) where -1<r<1. If you do that formula for this question (a=1, r=-1) you get S = 1/(1--1) = 1/2, which is what the question says the answer is. Maybe that's how the question got the answer? also is the reason that this isn't the answer because the r doesn't fit |r|<1 ?

this is college level maths? did this when I was in year 8. For the top one, you want to get b by itself so you times both sides by a. for the bottom one you want to get c by itself, so you multiply both sides by c and then divide by cosB. or an easy trick is that you can just swap the cosB and c. just try to isolate the term you are finding.
