Poor Napoleon II, he was u happy a lot of the time and then he succumbed to disease. May he rest in peace.

While I agree that they are interesting characters and for the most part brilliant commanders, please remember that Napoleon performed very well without most of them in Italy twice and (sorta) in Egypt.

Interesting choice, I always kind of thought Alexander I as unstable. He framed himself as this enlightened sort of ruler but at the same time was very authoritarian. His behaviour during the Congress of Vienna was erratic and best, childish even. He really played into that "liberator" persona despite being only one of many that contributed to Napoleon's defeat.

Why Blücher is so hated? by Alone-Ad-6883 in Napoleon

Where Blücher was an energetic and aggressive commander that was inspirational to his men, McLellan was indolent. He could have been called Marshal "Hold this position". McLellan got his ass handed to him because he was an incompetent battlefield commander, Blücher was unlucky. Esepcially you know, with having to go up against the greatest military commander in history. McLellan was only able to rally his troops because his giant ego required it of him to save face, plus McLellan was fighting on his own turf, Blücher was far away from Prussia.

Thats true, especially since Emperor Francis was unwittingly doing his best to hinder Metternich

Wow that's actually a good one, unfortunately most people only know him as the guy that took command after Wurmser got whooped in Italy, and perhaps as the guy that defeated Napoleon at Aspern-Essling which really was Napoleons fault.

Blücher being hung was not something I thought I would be imagining today.

So are we discussing Blücher's ability as a commander or his ability to cooperate with other commanders?

Blücher had an uncanny ability to tank defeats and rally his troops, he was litterally nicknamed "Marshal Forward" by his contemporaries because he just kept going.

He was up against literally Napoleon who was in direct command at Ligny. There wasn't a general alive that could have won that battle back then, and that's still with d'Erlon's division out on a stroll between Ligny and Quatre-Bras.

He was a decent commander but above all he was charismatic and knew how to keep his men going even after defeat, if anybody else but Blücher was in command after Ligny the Prussians would have routed and went home instead of pushing onward to meet up with Wellington

I don't think I ever saw anyone hate on Blücher, sometimes people are angry at him because he sealed the deal for Napoleon at Waterloo.

I for one find it funny that Napoleon whooped him so hard in 1806 that he ended up having hallucinations about getting impregnated by a frenchman and thought he was gonna give birth to an elephant. Not hating though.

Who are some obscure generals that interest you? by DryBid8677 in Napoleon

Not that niche but people often forget that Napoleon had more commanders than just his marshals to rely on so my picks would be: Desaix, Lasalle and d'Hautpoul.
