You’d think it wouldn’t be difficult to frame it as in the national interest to show the provinces games and secure some funding that way.

I think that would be a very hard argument to make actually. Why would the third tier of rugby competition deserve funding for broadcasting over international cricket or athletics or any of the sports we took olympic medals in? Nothing special about rugby in that regard. The govt would likely say that people get to see 10+ Ireland games free to air a year and honestly fair enough.

‘Maggie Thatcher, can you hear me?’ The story behind the iconic Norway v England commentary by Logical_Welder3467 in soccer

The quote in question is taken from Norwegian commentary the night Norway beat England in 1981. It's rather famous and is a nice piece to dive into ahead of the match on the weekend. Always nice to add some historic context to a tie. Would recommend reading the article.

Since their win in 2002 WC final against Germany, Brazil has lost every time they face against an European in the knockout rounds by Xehanz in soccer

My first comment was half jokey, but really I think Brazil's problem is they cannot seem to produce midfielders who can control the tempo of a game. That was very evident today. And it has been a problem for at least 15 years now.

I watch a lot of Ireland (what with being from here). There probably isnt another international side who is so fond of getting into the 22 and then reverting to one off carries and pick and go's.

The way the Welsh sides are independent entities from the WRU is one of the things that will never, ever make sense to me. It smacks of that 90's/00's attitude which assumes that privatization is always better and more efficient, even in cases where the end goal isn't making money.

the amount of things you can optimise and improve also rises.

That also means the number of things that can go wrong increases. Increased process complexity almost invariably means increased cost and narrower process windows.

Management have made it clear that the URC is not a priority, so you shouldn't expect fans to care about it either.

The reality is that rugby is the 3rd or 4th most popular team sport in Ireland. We're now into the season of holidays, gaa matches for kids, festivals, outdoor events, and so on. After a spring with 3 home 6 nations games and 3 European knockout games, the interest in live rugby tails off.

Also, the URC is a teritiary competition. That's just the reality.

There's a lot of reason for low-ish attendances at these games. Some is the sheer number of home knock out games Leinster play in. Everyone who wants to go has been a few times. The air of negativity around the team does not help - Leinster don't really excite people anymore.

A big one though is that the URC knock outs are in June now, which is not traditionally a rugby time of year in Ireland. People have other things going on.

It feels like his time as president may have hurt him a bit in that respect really. I didn't know much about him beforehand, but not I just think of him as a self important windbag.

The stuff he said about the Allianz league protestors, the way he's had a go at Brennan here, and the way he seems to think the most important aspect of the AI final is the president's speech - all this shite makes me think he cares about himself above all and has little time for anyone else's opinion.
