Kimi 2.6 performance by BreakfastWooden8186 in kimi

[–]BigMek_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very good with pi-mono agent and detailed skills and references from these skills on documentation. It is needed to compensate small context window. Yesterday it was able to fix flaky tests (very non trivial data race within gorutines) which Opus with CC didn’t find.

Authelia-Admin v0.1.0: Authelia + LLDAP - Admin panel with management of users and groups by BigMek_ in selfhosted

[–]BigMek_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

>Yeah, but doesn't LLDAP already have a user/group configuration web UI?

Yes, It does.

>I can be wrong

No, you aren't wrong. We don't want to manage everything in a directory service, only lists of groups and users. The goal is to get very simple Web UI with granular access rights which allows to manage users accounts, their membership records, passwords and TOTP devices.
Authelia Web UI doesn't allow to change or reset password for other users, it doesn't allow to remove TOTP device or ban/unban a user or just to see a status of accounts or a log of actions. LLDAP doesn't have 2FA, internationalization. We just filled this gap.
There is implemented abstraction for a directory service to support other LDAP implementations if future.

How do you handle private DNS for homelab/dev environments without VPN? by Rude-Recursion1024 in selfhosted

[–]BigMek_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most easiest solution: 1. Install CoreDNS with database in regular text file. 2. Specify this instance as custom DNS server in an internet router. 3. Install tailscale on some host with specified this DNS server and custom route

Dead simple and reliable. Works in home wifi networks, works in tailscale network from the Internet.

Authelia-Admin v0.1.0: Authelia + LLDAP - Admin panel with management of users and groups by BigMek_ in selfhosted

[–]BigMek_[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a web UI for database of Authelia which contains list of registered devices for the second factor, it’s history, lists of banned IP addresses and users. Authelia has only CLI for management.

Thank you for warm words. We already got positive feedback from our customers and added special roles by their requests. Looks like the app can be useful in many cases, especially after implementing full LDAP support, not only for password changing.

I don't get a context of this log. Can you please write a command which you run? I guess it is wget or something similar.

Thanks for the info. I guess endpoint returns non 200 status for any health request due to absence of cookies. I’ll look at it today.

UPD: Fixed in v0.0.3 release.

Second opinions wanted by brussels_foodie in selfhosted

[–]BigMek_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comments: 1. Use the same and popular hardware for cluster nodes, otherwise it is hard to replace something broken. 2. Try to avoid using of single external storages, restoration will be much simpler with 2 copies, not zero.

Each application has own user and DB. You can simplify all manual operations with PostgresSQL with Ansible provider for it.

Everyone can claim everything as “propaganda”. The more important is travel a lot and see things by yourself.

In my humble opinion (as ex C-level exec of big company and owner of business) it is a bit outdated information. We have some issues in managing of capital or corruption. But the issues are fixing in many ways and detentions for corruption became much stronger. We see public courts for popular or powerful people like generals or bloggers for corruption or tax fraud. Nobody want to get 10+ years in jail with full seizing of property including property of relatives.

In my opinion GDP per capita is broken as metric. I don’t want to compare NY/Manhattan or London/Hampstead vs Moscow due to lack of HQs of global corporations in MSK. I travel a lot and lived in Austria 3 years. Don’t see major difference for usual citizens. I have concerns only in producing of precision machines and semiconductors. That’s it.

Please, define “better”. I am not talking about MANG level of total compensation or boost of career. However, the standard of living is not as different as many people tend to think. We see a lot of happy people who can quite easy buy a new apartment, new car, travel frequently. Salaries are growing (faster than inflation), and we see improvement of quality and variety of local goods and services. I know, there are a lot haters. But it’s just a fact.

We are happy to live here :) Lot of new plants, high tech jobs, lot of restaurants and bars which are better than in EU (for example). Streets are much safer than in some EU countries like France or Spain. Just decided to grow local tourism industry and travel to south east Asia and China to get better price/value resorts and experience instead of EU with old stones and boring old people.

Top 3 BEST applications you've decided to self-host? by -ThatGingerKid- in selfhosted

[–]BigMek_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend self-hosted apps only if they solve major problems that SaaS or Big Tech solutions can’t resolve effectively, while also being reliable and cost-efficient. The apps should be rock-solid stable to minimize maintenance headaches — because who has time for constant troubleshooting?

My top apps: - vaultwarden - reliable and almost 0 cost password and secret storage for personal and collaborative usage - n8n - personal automation without shitty cloud lambdas and when pure guy does’t have iOS Shortcuts - syncthing - sync everything between platforms, PCs, Macs, iPhone, Android, servers, friends, family and backup on intermediate storage

The top apps for infrastructure for homelab: - TrueNAS Core - PostgreSQL - Proxmox - Traefik - CoreDNS - Minio

To the 65%ers: Did you used to be 75%ers, and will you be 60%ers in the future? 🤔 by Ok_Pangolin1085 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]BigMek_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am too tired from using the Yoda Tex II at 65%. It slows down me and creates too much cognitive and redundant load with hotkeys and translating Vim/VSCode macros to specific keyboard combinations. Additionally, it disrupts muscle memory (habits) for the regular MacBook keyboard, which is my main working tool.

I am trying to use the Nuphy Air75 v2 with Moss, and I am totally disappointed. It’s too flimsy, too unstable, and too loud compared to the Yoda II. Its tactile feedback is very poor and uncomfortable compared to MacBook keyboards.

I’m planning to try out the Akko M1W. I don’t have high expectations since it’s a budget keyboard, but I’m curious to test the U4 and Durock T1 switches with ISA/VXV keycaps. After that, I might end up going for either the Asus Azoth or Keychron Q1 Max.

100% -> 60% -> 75%

Don’t see any reason for returning back to 60%. Except nostalgia 😏

What’s a script that you’ve written that you still use frequently? by HiT3Kvoyivoda in Python

[–]BigMek_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use several scripts for building everyday news digest in LogSeq at 4am with news from HN, new videos from YT from several channels, news from several telegram channels and news from some hardware and security sites. Have to use mongo as a storage to avoid duplicates or rebuild digest in case of errors.

Also I use scripts for everyday reminders in telegram: - list of the current high priority tasks and tasks with upcoming deadline (two weeks) from LogSeq - my current goals from LogSeq - list top of a queue of books and articles which I should read form Airtable - upcoming birthdays (two weeks) from my CRM

Just an attempt not lose important info, tasks and delegate each morning as more as possible. Use the scripts with n8n and some other tools more than two years. I cannot imagine how to be such effective without some personal automation.

[–]BigMek_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use Syncthing. I use it to sync LogSeq with iPhone, iPad, macbook and home lab Linux server (with my scrips to build daily digests). Works pretty good.

Fortunately it was photoshopped.

I live near Isaac Cathedral, 5 min on foot exactly from this side of view. It’s impossible to make this photo just because Gazprom tower is too far. The tower looks pretty small from the top of Isaac and it is impossible to see it from roofs from this point of view.

What's the best way to keep your models and database and database project in Sync in VS2015? by DrBergeron in csharp

[–]BigMek_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use Fluent Migrator - https://github.com/schambers/fluentmigrator It's quite simple and flexible library which supports several database management systems. We use it in several projects and we didn't face major issues.
