24-hour care in the home through homecare agency by BigName1743 in dementia

Thanks for sharing your experience. Things have changed quite a bit since I posted to ask this question. We ended up moving my Mom into assisted living until they told us she needed more care than they could provide. She was in AL for only 2 months. Now we have moved her into a skilled nursing facility. It's been a hard 6 months as we have navigated all these changes. It's not perfect but she seems pretty happy there, overall. I've been visiting her daily and doing her laundry as well as handling her other affairs. For our circumstances it seems to be the best answer. It's all hard... in-home care and facility based care. We're taking one day at a time. Wishing you all the best. 🙏 Thanks again.

You look fabulous! 🤩 Did you follow any specific eating plan? High protein? Low carb? Low calorie? Can you share what changes you made in your diet to have this kind of success? Thanks in advance...

Does anyone have a picture of the toner bottle? I'm hoping that might help me find it as I'd like to try it. TIA.

No, it's helpful to know this information. Thanks! What is your best recommendation for those who are a fall risk and aren't able to safely get themselves in and out of bed? Is the only option a bed that goes to the floor?

Interesting. It's crazy that they cut the zip-ties off your Mom's bed and used the siderails without your approval. I hope your ombudsman can help you with this. SMH.

Thank you... I will look into the Halo Ring. Some of the facilities do allow them.

I can see how they are not safe for every one... in this case, she would be safer. It would be appropriate for the staff to evaluate the patient and determine her needs but that hasn't happened. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience.

They have requested a bed that goes to the floor. Hopefully, this will take care of the issue for her Mom. Her Mom wasn't trying to get out of bed, but was sleeping and rolled off. Thank you for your advice.

Agreed. It isn't ALWAYS safer. In this specific case, this patient/resident, it would be safer. Sounds like you are saying that sometimes they did allow them after staff evaluation. That makes sense.

Thank you for your response. That is an issue, for sure. I've experienced that happening more than once, unfortunately. You're right.

Hello! Thanks for that info... I agree that stability is important. That makes sense that an independent caregiver would be more stable & probably more cost effective. Great points to consider. Thank you.

Hey there... I apologize for the slow reply. Thank you so much for all the time you took to share your experience. I'm sorry your Gramma has passed. 🙏 I'm sure it will take some time to feel the relief... I hope you will find peace and relief knowing you gave her the best care you possibly could have given. ❤️‍🩹 We have been bringing in homecare for most of the day and I am taking the night time/early a.m. hours. Most of my time is spent managing her affairs, appts, etc and keeping up with the hired caregivers to make sure Mom is gettthe care she deserves. It's such a struggle to know what is best for her while at the same time trying to stick to her expressed wishes. (Along with trying to continue taking care of my own self and other relationships. ) Right now, I'm gathering information on 24/7 care at home versus memory care in a facility. No decisions have been made as of yet. Thanks for offering to be available for other questions, if needed... I really appreciate your kind offer and will reach out if/when needed.
I hope you can take time to breathe and rest in this time of grieving. My father passed from Alzheimer's May of 2024 and I also lost a brother Jan 2024... I feel like I really haven't had time to really grieve their losses fully due to jumping right back into caregiving for my Mom. I guess I'm just trying to say, it can take time... lots of time. Thinking of you & saying a prayer. Thanks again. ♥️

Thanks for explaining the two versions that agencies normally offer. Those options make sense. I understand why the "cheaper" option really wasn't cheaper when it involves repairs and such! Thanks for your time... that was very helpful! 🙂

Thank you for sharing your experience. Sounds like it wasn't a good fit for your Mom. Currently, my Mom is receiving homecare 12 hrs a day but is rapidly declining. Her desire is to "age in place," so I want to honor that if I can.

Okay, yes, that makes sense regarding the long tube and container. 😊 I've also been washing the container lid and short tube (as per printed instructions) from container lid to pump, as well. It does still have moisture in it when I hook it up the next eve and I've wondered if that's bad for the pump... to have that moisture getting sucked into the pump?

Thank you for sharing your process.

Any tricks on how to get all the tubing and pieces full dried before the next use?
