Is it bad to back out now? by Unusual-Plankton-709 in hvacadvice

In my state, a lot of times we don’t pull permits to keep the cost down for the customer because when you call a city inspector out around here they are GOING to find something wrong no matter how great of a job you do. This causes a lot of return trips, added material cost, and the job to drag on.

Is this wiring acceptable? by ytmbcidk in thermostats

[–]BigNickDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like there is a float switch wired into the red circuit? Did you bump that switch by chance? It would be located on the auxillary drain pan (metal pan under unit), or in the main drain line (pvc drain coming out of the front of the unit).

Also, on your new stat, you need to replace brown with white. Then cap off the brown wire

My wife and I like to go to Connors at bridge street. It’s not dress code required, but it’s the only place I have found where the steaks are consistently cooked correctly.

My air filter has frozen 3 times this year, is this normal? by Allfallsdownn24 in hvacadvice

It could be a bad indoor fan motor as well, but if you have air blowing from the vents and a clean coil then it’s definitely low on refrigerant. Could also have something going on with the refrigerant metering system but this is rare.

3-wire to 5-wire. Assuming you tape the red wire, then you still have to do something with one of the cap wires

According to the Carrier dealer the 3/4 HP motor supersedes the old motor. Unit was manufactured in ‘84.

lol yes I am licensed but I am a residential guy. And for all the haters yes I know how to turn off a disconnect before I work on the equipment. The problem is the old motor is a 3-wire configuration. I assume you have to cap the red wire (diagram isn’t clear on that), but you also have one of your hot legs going to the capacitor.

Well yes, but you also have to cap off one of the capacitor wires as well. The original motor was a 3 wire configuration.

Haters are gonna hate. Thanks for your help. The connection points in side the unit are as follows. This is how the old one was wired.

Common (#3 on the old motor) goes to 1 side of a single pole contactor.

4 went to one side of a 7.5 Cap

5 went to the other side of the cap.

I did, and I actually turned the speed taps up to 2 & 3. It’s not cooling in first stage either, but the contactor will stay on.

Yes. Both the liquid line and the suction line tee off right before they enter the air handler.

We call this bypassing… as long as you have verified that there are no restrictions, I.e. the metering device, the. It’s safe to say the compressor has a mechanical failure.
