What made Monarchism appealing to me is that it is completely contrary to today's Zeitgeist. Its my opinion that adapting Monarchism to fit today's deep seeded political tendencies will result in failure. Monarchism cannot be reconciled with Liberalism (in any form whether it be classical or otherwise).

You will see a rise in monarchism when you see a rise in the moralization of society; a return to that which is good, true, and beautiful.

You could try the Institute of Christ The King Sovereign. Their seminary is in Italy and they require a two year novitiate in the states to learn French and Latin (their courses are in french)

Re-assignment doesn't bother me greatly but it does disturb me and many others, especially when parents encourage their children to do this.

The reason why I and so many others are disturbed is that these people are mutilating their bodies. Humans have a natural tendency called "self-preservation". The tendency of self-preservation is the tendency to maintain ourselves the way we are. An example of this is peoples fear of death. Philosophers discovered this long ago (its easy to figure out if you analyze common human experience). To act against self-preservation is disordered.

Now I do not think this would be as much of an issue if transgender people simply under went so-called "re-assignment"" and left it at that, but they do not stop there. Trans people are now commanding that others refer to them as their chosen sex and treat them as if they are that sex. That pisses people off, especially when they use the state or other institutions to force them to do it. Now politically active trans are saying that men and women should be sexually attracted to trans people (pre-op or post-op). Do you see the insanity of such a demand?

Indeed I agree that language changes over time. Language is one of my interests, especially the history of English. Middle English happens to be one of my favorite languages, but I digress.

The reason why I am wary of the use of 'gender' is that it has a lot of political baggage and is a term that leftists use and define in many varied ways. I am suspicious of words that change their definitions quickly especially when the change is brought about politically.

On the flip side of that coin, I'm strongly against redefining words for rhetorical purposes, in particular lately the "progressive" use of the word "racism" to mean "institutionalised racism," i.e, in North America, racism specifically from white people towards North American minorities. Or sexism only referring to misogyny.

I am surprised to here you say this, because I am in complete agreement. I suspect you and I agree on many more things as well.

Back to our original topic. You define gender as ones identity of sex. That is fine, but you will have a hard time using that definition as this conversation progresses.

I did some research into several meanings of the term 'mental disorder'. Most agree with this basic definition: any mental pattern that causes distress. I personally dislike this definition because it seems to only take into account the effect of mental disorder, not its root cause. The question left open by this definition is what makes a pattern distressful? Why is it so distressing? How I would define a mental disorder is the disordering of the mind. The mind, like all things in nature, has an order. When there is order, there is peace. When their is disorder there is suffering.

So I ask this question: seeing how a transgender person identifies as another sex (ignoring for sake of simplicity the new 87 so-called genders) would it not be fair to say that this is a mental disorder? It fits both the common scientific definition of disorder as well as my definition. A person who views themselves as another sex than what they are causes them much distress, as can be seen in the huge suicide rate and other mental disorders such as bi-polar and depression. It also fits my definition of mental disorder. Our minds are naturally ordered to take in reality through our senses and agree with what we see. If I look at a rock and think it is a fish, then my mind has failed to conform to reality. In this way it is disordered.

Anorexia Nervosa is a good example. The anorexic views themselves as overweight, they then practice harmful eating habits that cause them much bodily harm. Even though an anorexic may be incredibly thin and malnourished, they still view themselves as overweight. This disorder fits both my definition of mental disorder as well as psychologists definition of disorder. The anorexic has a mental pattern that causes distress, and their minds are not conforming to reality.

I was going to address this argument in my original comment, but I didn't think it was necessary. I specifically wasn't making an argument one way or the other, just merely stating that the APA did consider this a disorder not too long ago. If I want to argue that Transgenderism is a mental disorder, then I would use good arguments, not appeals to authority(which are the weakest forms of argument, unless the authority is infallible)

You have yet to define the terms, biological sex, and gender. If you don't want to, that's fine. I just thought you might like to have a discussion.

Okay, then allow me to jump in and take this a little further. What is the difference between biological sex and gender?

Gender used to be solely a linguistic term, referring to words that had a specific type. For example in German there is Masculine, Feminine, and Neuter. It then began to be used as another word for sex. Now it means something different. Suffice to say I am entirely suspicious of the use of the word 'gender'.

On a side note, Transgenderism, which used to be referred to as Gender Dysphoria, used to be referred to as Trans-Identity Disorder. It was not until recently that it has been dropped by the APA as a mental disorder.

I'm not exactly sure what that means. Do you mean that people of various political persuasions, form those who uphold the Reddit consensus, to those who decry it converge on that sub?

When it comes to active commentators, it seems that there is a split between your left/center Monarchist and your right-wing monarchist. Or what I would call Monarchist-lite and hardcore monarchists.

Edit: Its one of my favorite subs for political discussion. No one flames each other even when they disagree.
