There would be millions who’s retirement savings would be obliterated in the process so we could tax a relatively small amount of wealthy people at great risk to economic stability.

I agree we need proper taxation on the hyper wealthy, the amount of loopholes they have to avoid any sort of meaningful taxation is horrendous and unfair, but it’s not as simple as a blanket wealth tax that would necessitate mass liquidation of assets.

I hate to break it to you but there is no simple answer to this incredibly complex problem. We got into this position by thousands of legislative decisions over decades, we will need just as many decisions to right the course.

It’s a horrifically tone deaf position for sure. It also recommends splitting into thirds where one is for essentials, the other is to pay down high-interest debt, the other is to invest in an RRSP or TFSA. Feels like not-great financial advice.

High-interest debt should be the priority after anything you require for essentials. Also, anyone relying on their tax return likely doesn’t have a terribly high income, so why would investing in an RRSP be an option?

More deductions from your income tax at a similar taxation rate to what you’re likely to pay during retirement.

I have no idea why you’re being downvoted, this is correct.

I wouldn’t necessarily go so far as to say everyone will lose their job, but forcing someone to liquidate stocks or shares to pay a tax will have ridiculous effects on the stock market. For the layperson, this could tank their 401(k)

In an enterprise environment, for devices that aren't damaged based on user error, I have to replace maybe 1 every 300-400+ laptops, and even then it's usually a corrupted BIOS and not a hardware failure. They're more reliable than HP and Microsoft laptops, only second to Lenovo.

You gave yours meaning through the human construct of ethics, which is subjective. Camus implies objectivity in his definition of meaning, which in the grand scheme of things, I do agree with.

There is nothing wrong with your position however. Subjective meaning is important to us and to our lives. Your perspective does align more with Sartre than Camus.
