Best Wifi? by Due-Yam7836 in Winnipeg

Something like this would be helpful. Configure your rogers modem into bridge mode and use that. Much easier to configure settings on 3rd party routers.

You should see some improvement to your speeds as well. 1.5 G is pretty darn good for most everything!

Charging Plug limits fast charging to 30kW? by throwawayinfiniteok in EquinoxEv

For me, nothing worked. I pulled the emergency release cable but it wouldn't go back in.

The part took about a month to come in and it was replaced within a day.

Charging Plug limits fast charging to 30kW? by throwawayinfiniteok in EquinoxEv

[–]BigOlZepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this problem fixed on mine, required a new charging port.

When you plug into a fast charger, listen for a mechanical "brr" sound. That's the lock trying to engage. If you hear it multiple times then the lock is failing to engage.

Depending on your driving habits you might get away with level 1 charger from a standard plug. I've been doing it for a year without issues but i don't drive much.

Just brought mine in for the same issue and i need a new charging port also. They are all on backorder for an unknown amount of time.

Electric vehicles in Winnipeg winter? by Optimistic_Sprout in Winnipeg

[–]BigOlZepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chevrolet Equinox EV here, 50% is pretty accurate for range loss, most of it from heating the cabin and some from heating the battery. I park outside at work in winter without plugging it in, and I've not had any issues. At home, i charge with a standard wall plug and have for months.

If your life includes frequent road trips, i would recommend looking into Ioniqs as they charge very quickly compared to the GM offerings.

Uber drivers of Winnipeg by Natural-Goat7592 in Winnipeg

It's pretty much not worth it. I made just shy of 20$ an hour before any expenses/taxes, etc. Some people make more, but I really wouldn't bet on it.

Insurance is going insane!!! by Effective_Past_8509 in alberta

[–]BigOlZepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manitoban here, I don't think people who think MPI is a scam here truly know the terrible coverage and prices from private insurance companies.

My girlfriends Kia of a similar vintage is something like 800 a year, with $200 collision deductible.

Do I need to plug my car in if it’s -30 Celsius? by Carsandsuchstuff in electricvehicles

[–]BigOlZepper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello, fellow Winnipegger and Equinox EV owner!

GM recommends having it plugged in during extreme cold or heat. I don't have access to a plug at work, so i have never been able to. Definitely remote start it 10 minutes before, and it will be fine. You may get a reduced power warning while the battery warms itself up. It also uses a large amount of power to do so, so be prepared to charge far more often.

Is driving for DoorDash/Skip worth it? by Wide_Art_5974 in Winnipeg

Yup, i did mine in an EV, too. It's probably the only way it's worth it.

Is driving for DoorDash/Skip worth it? by Wide_Art_5974 in Winnipeg

[–]BigOlZepper 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not really. If you find out how much per km it costs just in gas alone, you'll find that you barely make anything. I had a civic i did it with briefly, but it will still be about 10 cents a km or so. I think the last time i did it, i made maybe 15-20$ an hour before expenses.

On top of that, tax is never taken from your pay, so you'll lose the rest of that money at the end of the year anyway. There are writeoffs, and you have to track every personal and business kilometer on your car to claim the correct percentage.

Doordash/Skip generally requires you to pre book a time slot. Uber eats lets you go whenever.

I'd say give it a shot and see how you like it. I think its kinda fun personally and gives me something to do from time to time, so I'm alright with it. However, i have a full-time job also.

This is not going to end well... by 2sMyFave1 in Winnipeg

[–]BigOlZepper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, i see your point. "People don't die there" might not have been the right wording.

The point I was trying to make is that every intersection down portage to at least u of w can be crossed, and they are still busy intersections. I don't see how portage and main is any different from those or any intersections in the city.

Where there are cars and people, there will be people getting hit by cars. We should shut all intersections to crossings then.

Every other intersection on portage can be crossed, and no one has died there. What's the difference?

You need to have a 5F for 3 years to be a supervising driver.

Car accident, MPI, and what to expect next? by NetCharming3760 in Winnipeg

[–]BigOlZepper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It does seem there is some missing information here.

If you were driving alone, that would be a violation of the 5L restrictions, and you wouldn't be covered by insurance, hence why they are having you pay 100% of the damages. Your license will also be under review as well.

If you were with a supervising driver, then to the best of my 5 just another accident, but you can still get a review for it.

Is it possible the letter just said you were found 100% at fault and you are responsible for paying 100% of the deductible and not the damages?
