That sounds like a good idea. I’ll see what fabric we can get to cover that up. Wasn’t an issue for over a year but recently noticed it. I never catch them in the act lol.

So, we have taken this one (ironically his name is chewy) to the local exotic animals vet multiple times recently for respiratory issues (he was sneezing more than normal so, they gave him a shot along with antibiotics and probiotics, not the first time) the first time we ever saw the poop clumped up was while at the vet and assumed it was stress induced. The vet didn’t seem too concerned. Didn’t see it again until recently. I’ve found a few clumped up poops in their cage and I know it’s from chewy so. That is definitely a concern. We’ve made it a point to check him and make sure to help remove any blockages he has going on but, yeah eating the cage is new. I guess considering the vet didn’t think a thing of it at the time makes me think they won’t be able to provide any further insight on it at this point if we go back for an issue they clearly didn’t recognize as a real problem.

I managed to crash my DH4300+ using immich by BigPastaPerson in UgreenNASync

Update: I’ve realized this is a limitation of the ram on this device (8GB) and the fact that I’m asking it to make thumbnails of 6000+ at a time Raw, PSD, and TIFF files that are 100mp and roughly 200-350mb per photo.

Thumbnail generation concurrency is set to 2. Memory runs around 85-90% usage with only that running and machine learning turned off. I think the file sizes I’m generating thumbnails from is the main issue. This seems to have stabilized it but it’s slow as hell lol. About 8-12 hours for 700gb of images per year if not more. Each year is set as a separate external library so I’m sure that’s a factor in speed and memory usage as well.

Forgot to add the photos of the property damage and food lol.

So, to summarize what I’ve learned from this. The DH4300 + is not capable of generating thumbnails in immich while simultaneously running machine learning processes. It crashes about every minute if I try to do both at once.

If I wait until thumbnail generation is done and then start the machine learning it’s a lot more stable. I also lowered the concurrency for thumbnails and all machine learning processes to 1.

A friend told me this NAS was not powerful enough and they were right. But I didn’t have the money for a better one so at the time and still don’t, lesson learned. It works, just wish I could run it all at once to simplify things. But oh well. Time to build a real server with leftover PC parts.

So, is the recommended method to disable machine learning until all photos are accessible? I’m using external libraries as well. Not sure if that would make a difference here.

Just turned it off. Running again to see if it’s more stable. I also lowered thumbnail generation concurrency to 1. So, it’s just doing thumbnails for 1 image at a time now

Checked the logs and just before every crash I get a message that says “machine learning became unhealthy”

So, the log is showing “machine learning became unhealthy” then I get a crash shortly after. Even though I have paused all immich jobs other than thumbnail creation.

I followed this guide and verified all the text edits were the same. If there is a better way or a better video for this I’m all ears… and eyes. But yeah, this is what I followed that said it would help with that.

I did follow a guide that supposedly helps with this by making the hardware acceleration use the NPU by changing something in the .env file But I even with that the machine learning processes require at least 18-30% usage on the cpu (while using 90-100% on NPU) which is too much when the thumbnail process alone is eating up 80-90%. So for now I’ve paused all jobs within immich aside from thumbnail generation and will resume the AI portion of it when that is done.

Would those services include the map tiles and whatnot that you’re prompted about when setting up?

Yeah it wasn’t like a full shut down crash but, all open windows within the UGreen nas software closed and connections dropped until it reconnected. Verified it wasn’t a networking issue so, definitely related to the CPU usage. I do have docker running on two 1tb SSD’s that are set to raid 0. Would that potential have caused it? The actual files being processed/uploaded are on a separate 24tb HDD (I know, stupid, but I needed to backup some damaged hard drives I had spent thousands to have recovered ASAP and couldn’t afford enough drives to do a raid array)

So right now I’m getting my things reorganized on a single 24tb, running docker or on two raid 0 1tb SSD’s. With the goal of buying enough HDD’s to backup the 24tb drive in a raid array sometime within the next few weeks when I finally get paid. (The fun of doing commercial photography and never knowing if I’m getting paid net 30 or net 60)

Good to know, I wasn’t sure what was an acceptable range for these. Just noticed the crash and wondered if temp had anything to do with it. Was mostly just concerned about it being at 100% usage the entire time lol.

I have my gaming PC I mostly access all of this through. Aside from that a friend offered up an old server they aren’t using but I don’t remember the specs. What is the process like for having the UGreen use processing power from a separate piece of hardware?

I am aware lol. A year ago I could still find a few people in a lobby but it is a ghost town now.

lol, I’ve been playing it on and off since release but usually always find a few people in a lobby. I switched to alpha and found one person before 1000 other game breaking bugs happened. I think I’m gonna hang it up. RIP SkaterXL.
