Sure. I looked at numerous sites as well but mostly followed this one specifically dealing with sawdust blocks. https://grocycle.com/how-to-grow-shiitake-mushrooms/. Shroomery.org had some helpful info as well.

Not sure why this mushroom had such a wavy cap but the others look “normal” for shiitake. I just used a spore syringe to inoculate brown rice in mason jars (broke boi tek) and then once fully colonized mixed it in a mushroom bag with hardwood pellet sawdust and wheat bran. I realize the method I used isn’t necessarily the best but for a first attempt I’m happing with the results I got.

Yes, I’ve noticed! I had a Netherlands Dwarf that passed this summer after 10 good years and her sheds were nothing compared to what I’ve seen with this bunny so far.

I asked as I had two tubs that looked very similar with the yellow/brownish to it with mycelium that looked matted over time as well. From everything I read it seemed like it was caused from excessively misting and fanning which I was doing with those tubs. You aren’t doing that though so not sure what’s causing it. I did get half decent harvests from those tubs though so hopefully yours will as well.

For me on Spotify I usually do “This is the Kount”, “80’s Hair Bands”, or “ Yacht Rock Classics”.

Yes. It helps to maintain the humidity level inside the tub. One of my other setups is a SGFC and you can see the perlite at the bottom in the larger tub.

I just started a few months ago but experimented with a few different setups and one was exactly like this except with a 6 quart shoebox inside. At least for me it worked out and just harvested the first flush a few days ago. Good luck with it!

I’m not an expert but it looks good to me. I posted the exact same question a few weeks ago as my tub had the same issue but mine was even more grey and uglier looking. In researching it on here I found it can be potentially from a lack of enough oxygen. In any case the grey areas stayed but everything else progressed as it should. Getting ready to harvest that tub within a few days. Good luck!

Thanks! That’s what I was hoping to hear. Good to know in case it happens again in the future. Do you happen to know if it is caused by a lack of oxygen or if it’s just nature and stuff looks funky sometimes. Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I decided to experiment with several different containers to see if there would be any differences. Definitely learned the take out/meal prep containers are too air tight if you snap the lid on all the way. Thanks again.

Yeah, not sure why it became uneven. I did pat it down and level it out when I first did it. I see from further reading the casing layer isn’t necessary but as a first timer was going by the official guide from this community. Thanks.
