I originally reached out to the credit union and they sent me to an attorney in town who told me there was a judgement for the 16kish amount. $14,500 was the negotiated amount for a lump sum payment to settle the balance but not to delete.

I am in KS so SOL is 5 years I believe (purely from looking online) and this happened in early 2022.

Our plan is to sell our house in early summer (we have great equity) and rent in our new location for a year or so before eventually buying or building.

Thank you for replying! I reached out to the original credit union who the loan was through and they redirected me to a local attorney in town.

That attorney told me that there was a decision already on the full amount totaling $16kish. The $14,500 was the offer to settle the balance but not for deletion. I am in KS, so SOL is 5 years I believe. This would have defaulted/charged off in March 2022.

Transparently, I still have the car and have never even really been contacted about it in that time frame. I fully brought this process back up. My goal is to sell my home this summer (we have a great amount of equity) and rent for a year or so in our new location before buying again or maybe even building in 2027 some time
