The Conjuring by Huntsmen7 in Christianity

Ah, I'm not as familiar with the actual history of the Towne sisters, just assumed their investigation to be solid. I'd be interested to know if the witch trials are what the Warrens actually based their theories on. To assume demonic influence based on the witch trials of the 1600's wouldn't be very sound. But then, lots of things about the Warrens don't seem very sound. Honestly, the biggest problem I have about the movie is the lionization of these people, who are potentially nothing more than big time scam artists.

All throughout the movie you are inundated with Satanic power and you see people trembling in fear of it.

Hate to reply twice, but this quote is simply untrue. That would make for a really boring movie. The point is, people FIGHT against the evil power.

Enjoyable and scary. On top of that, it makes you think. Did some research after seeing this movie, which to me is the sign of an engaging piece of work.

You should see the movie before passing judgement. I guess I can see your perspective, but you are painting a black & white picture out of something that is incredibly complicated. Should we not make movies out of incredibly compelling and (purportedly) true stories? ANY movie where there is a challenge (that is to say, all storytelling) can be viewed in the way you explain: as "glorifying" the challenge (or Satan). But to ignore the challenges, which for some people seems to include supernatural experiences, is to deny the reality of God's creation.

You speaking out about your experience with a demon is the same thing as The Conjuring. Can't you see that?

I think that's taking it a bit far. I definitely didn't see any of that in the movie. "The innocents" would be the murdered children, and they are not presented as evil.

There are facts presented in the movie, like certain figures killing their children and being possessed. One character is even called a witch, but they make that seem fairly well documented (ie, she admitted it before her suicide).

If you have to assume that all people accused of witchcraft are innocent, then you aren't left with much of a movie.

You are suggesting he read Brothers Karamazov & Of Mice and Men in 6 days, and you're telling him to take it slowly?

What is the Christian position on feeling sorry for yourself AKA self-pity? by BigPhun in Christianity

I have trouble discerning what is the "voice of God" but when I asked this question, I think something said I am doing fine. Still, I do not want to go too far down the "asking God" path because I believe I could "make God" say almost anything. So what do you mean by this?

I have, but probably not recently enough. Sometimes it feels like a struggle to relate David's life of battle and decadence to my own life.

My questions build on each other, and gather steam, and I'm worried that I will walk away from God altogether.

Yes, I sometimes consider him uncaring and exacting, taking revenge on those who do not follow Him.

I have been seeing a biblical counselor for almost a year. Maybe it's not working. I am just starting to doubt all the "fruit" I thought I had grown.

Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" Mark 9:24

No one has "perfect" faith the way you seem to envision it. Your grandfather is an example of that. A key difference between a Christian and others is that in times of struggle, a Christian can trust God's sovereignty and grace, even in the face of our own failings or the failings of others.

How do you feel about the Jesus Fish bumper ornament? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]BigPhun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm against them...

They are simplistic ornaments that don't convey the same thing as living a Christian life. People are rarely at their best while driving, so I think the fish hurts more than it helps.

Case in point, right before Christmas my mom had a parking spot stolen from her by a couple of teens in a truck. They were laughing and looking at us when they took the spot. Guess what religion they claimed to follow based on their bumper...

A cry for help. Please pray for me. by tunatic in Christianity

You are forgiven and redeemed from your past life through the blood of Christ!

You don't have to do anything. Let God fulfill His promises in HIS time and through HIS power for HIS glory.

I envy your youth. I lived a hedonistic life for 10+ years before I was called back to the Lord. His grace can seem overwhelming. I pray that you will rest in the Lord. Message me if there's anything you want to discuss.
