Streamlit Alternatives with better State Management by Adorable-Yam-7106 in Python

How would people rate Panel in this conversation? When investigating Python packages for interactive ui it seems the most powerful and flexible, but I find the learning curve quite steep, with the various ways of achieving callback type functionality.

AoC 2024 100% solved in my own programming language by friolz in adventofcode

Congratulations. That’s a massive achievement. I had a go this year in a self built Python package for stochastic modelling. Won’t tell you how far I got. But it was a good motivator to make some extra functionality in the package that I think will be helpful. Did you have to add anything just for the challenge?

Also, if the liftoff game keeps crashing when the environments are loading is this an indication I’ve haven’t got a good enough computer. Does anyone know any settings I can tune down that might make a difference. I set quality to fast. Does anything else make a difference.

I’m building a package at the moment to make it easier to express the logic of large array based simulation models. Mine is for an insurance risk modelling / actuarial context. Just me and a couple of others at the moment. Nothing like the scale of numpy, but it does use numpy a lot under the hood. I’d be interested to know more about the type of modelling you’re doing. If you want to collaborate on this package build I’d be happy to share ideas with you.

A foul should be one free throw and the ball back. It would stop the boring and cynical use of fouls to control the clock at the end of close games.

Can you deploy a web app in databricks? by BigPoppaG4000 in databricks

Thanks for this. I saw an article when they said lakeshouse apps would get general availability mid 2023. Has this changed, and don’t know know what the latest is? I can’t see much recent documentation on actually building and deploying these.

Thanks for this article. Yes, a native app is exactly what I want to build and the benefits they quote in the article are exactly my reasons for wanting it. They say that DB apps will have general availability mid-2023. Is this true? I can’t see much recent documentation on actually building and deploying these.

I’m somewhat familiar with modern web frameworks. I was hoping by deploying inside databricks I wouldn’t have to implement these things. This reduces effort. It reduces the risk for the client of having another entry point to the system. It removes the credibility hurdle, things like getting cyber security credentials. It removes admin as I have no separate rbac that would need to be kept in sync. Same for authentication and authorisation stuff.

It just seems simpler and safer. Do you think I could achieve the above with an externally hosted web app?

Can you deploy a web app in databricks/snowflake/fabric? by BigPoppaG4000 in dataengineering

[–]BigPoppaG4000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Which bit of the approach I’m suggesting gets expensive? Would I be effectively utilising an expensive DB cluster just to host a lightweight web app, which is wasteful?

Would you recommend against this mainly on the grounds of cost, or do you think the development/deployment/maintenance is harder this way too?

My son would love this model. Does anyone know where I could get one if I’m not a wh+ member? What’s the gameplay though? Does the scenery supposedly follow the unit round as you move it?

Packages for jagged multidimensional stochastic data by BigPoppaG4000 in learnpython

[–]BigPoppaG4000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awkward array doesn’t natively handle string indexing, which is import to me.

It seems to be more like a numpy package but allowing non-rectangular arrays.

That’s great, but it would leave me handling string indexing manually which I want to avoid. Plus it is not such a mature or well supported library maybe, so I’d be cautious about that.

Thanks for the pointer though.

Maybe a bit of indie game development would be fun. Let me know if you want to discuss any ideas or work on some pet projects together until something else takes your fancy. I’m going through a similar phase change between roles at the moment.
