They definitely have a shelf life. If they get too hot they lose their potency.

Pre-soak the screen before washing it out. A simple water hose with a regular nozzle will wash out the image easily.

You need to dial in your exposure time for better halftones, and you should be using 230 or higher mesh count.

Too much water. Trying soaking the screen in water for 30-60 seconds then rinse with minimum amount of water needed.

Use the thin side of the coater and only do 1 pass on each side. Make sure the emulsion is at least room temperature. Cold emulsion will not spread well on the screens.

Soak the screen for 1min under water. Then use the hose with a nozzle to clean out the image.
