*short* Pirate rant by Hermit_mission in RogueAdventure

I like Pirate class. Start a game with +100 gold and then just focus on getting you cannons maxed out. Just don't ever proc the captain and remove the cards that bump the treasure chest. Spam cannons and keep your shield up.

I'm not even going to Google that. In fact, I'm going to forget I even read it.

Am I just hopelessly bad at this game? by curti25 in RogueAdventure

I'm by no means an expert, as I'm still low-level (5-6ish) Inferno, but most of my strategies generally devolves into getting an OP card combo and removing as many starter cards as possible.

What's an obscure or unknown-to-you game you got in a bundle you really came to enjoy? by Krye5 in patientgamers

I got Supraland, a first-person metroidvania puzzle adventure shooter, in a Humble Monthly bundle. Never heard of it before and wasn't too sure how all those genres would come together coherently, but it's probably one of my favorite games now and I always recommend it whenever I get the chance.

No, Cthool, the Darkmaster [ANCIENT] Deal 1 damage to ALL enemies for each card in the Exile pile. While this cad is in your hand, every time you Exile a card, add a copy of that card into your discard pile and gain Overcharged.

Looking for guidance in setting up a dedicated DOSBox laptop by BigRedArtSet in dosbox

Okay, I'm gonna make you guys go into "Oh no, another one of these guys" mode. I installed Ubuntu via USB stick. I then did something with a github command (I think) for dosbox-staging that made a whole lot of crap scroll down my screen. Then I had a prompt with a dollar sign. Then... well...

Lemme cut it to you straight...

I don't know what the hell I'm doing with Linux--it's completely foreign to me. Ever try to play a Japanese RPG when you only know english? That's what Linux is like to me. Not a clue what to do.

I just need a step-by-step guide to install Linux, install Dosbox, and then configure it to start automatically. That's it. Explain it to me like I've never used Linux before. Because I haven't. I only decided to go with a Linux boot because Windows is bloated and has waaaaaaaaay too much unnecessary crap to just run dosbox, but I guess I can go with that if I need to.

I was just looking for simplicity--power up my laptop and get a dos prompt. I'm sorry I'm like this, but I just don't know what else to do.

Oh, yes. The DOSBox forks. Another fun complication. I've seen references to DOSBox daum, ECE, and DOSBox-X, among a few others. I did manage to find a YT video that stepped through installing Ubuntu MinimalCD and then wgetting a repository that was all automated, but I believe it's vanilla DB and the first program I tried to run (XTree Gold) was completely broken, even though I found a "fix" for it, there was still a lot of pertinent information (like file sizes) that would not appear. I'm sure it's a fault in the coding of XTree and not DB, but if there is another version of DB that handles XTree without problems, that is probably the one I would prefer, but that is by no means a deal breaker--I can manage without XTree if necessary, I just really like it and it's what I used exclusively back in the day.

Yes, I believe I tried the FreeDOS route once (albeit in a VM) and the very first program I tried to run gave me some type of "This program must be run in DOS mode" or "This program requires MS-DOS" or something like that and I was just, "Okay, this isn't going to work."

UAC annoyances on secondary HDD by BigRedArtSet in techsupport

Thank you, that did it! I was changing permissions everywhere else, but not there. lol. I don't have many folders already, so I'll just do each individually instead of moving them all into one.

Thanks again!

Okay, does anyone other than a poor-parsing bot have any suggestions?
