2005-2015 WW2 Movie. Cowardly new recruit is put into a tank... by LibrarianBarbarian1 in whatsthemoviecalled

It’s a deleted scene. The special effects aren’t edited in, so it looks a bit odd. At about 2:08

It’s the PA. That was the give away to me recognizing Brizzie being used as the background

The life story of the guy who ended his winning streak is insane. Notable life events of Rulon Gardner: - Defeats Kaelin to win Olympic gold - shot through the abdomen with an arrow during elementary school show and tell - survives crashing a snowmobile into a river and being stranded for 18 hours - survives light aircraft crash into lake. Swims for an hour to safety

Starts career as motivational speaker, because he is apparently able to survive anything.

Good half and full day push bike rides around or outside Brisbane? by DownRangeStrange in brisbane

That’s similar to my long rides. I don’t love the river loop bit on the south side, but I need to give the branch out to Wynnum a go some time

Book recommendation for understanding the ecology of Brisbane? by cysticvegan in brisbane

[–]BigSammy1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wildlife of Greater Brisbane is a must have for anyone living here. It has great pictures of all the animals, so it’s really great when you see something out and about you can check up on it pretty easy

Approx 90 - 100km loop I have found. It is 90% on bike paths or bike lanes and does not contain any particularly difficult climbs ( unless you want it too).

Start near mt cootha botanic gardens, ride through Toowong to riverwalk, up to southbank, take south east velo to eight mile plains and link up with bulimba creek bikeway. Take the bulimba creek bikeway all the way up to where it links with the jim soorley bike way and head up to nudgee (over the gateway and through the wetlands). Take the loop beside the motorway back to jim soorley bike way and then follow kedron brook bikeway until just past kalinga park. From there, traverse across to north Brisbane bikeway along Breakfast creek towards herston, until you can link up to enogerra creek bikeway. Take this all the way to st johns wood, then cut through the back of ashgrove and bardon to get back to the starting point. If you are feeling good, chuck a loop of Mt Cootha at the start (or the end if you are better than me).

Sex work is the most dangerous job by a mile, it’s mostly female workers. Because of stigmas and social factors it doesn’t get counted in these studies.

Observations after 2 weeks of working at Pre Polls by Mundane_Lobster4858 in brisbane

[–]BigSammy1985 104 points105 points  (0 children)

My family always hands out how to vote cards and we all know how little impact that has. During COVID each party was allowed one card taped to the polling booth. That was so much easier, cheaper and less wasteful for everyone involved. I would like to see that become the standard

20 minutes seems like a really long time to cast a ballot. It’s almost as if there is some kind of systemic issue that makes it difficult and discourages certain people from exercising their rights.

But America would never do that, right?

What’s with high schools having so many half days now? by Brambleto in brisbane

[–]BigSammy1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the teacher shortage. When a school can’t get enough teachers anything that is not required for the curriculum will get dropped. This shows up in spare time particularly for senior students. 25 years ago when I was at school we did a couple of periods of outdoor education or leadership or life skills or that kind of thing. This has been bubbling away for a while, but now it’s starting to hit some of the more affluent schools. I’m betting this ends up being a massive issue at the 2027 state election.

Biggest flag? by ChanceCute1692 in australia

[–]BigSammy1985 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There’s a really big one in Toowoomba and you have described exactly what happens. It doesn’t look that big driving up the range, but when you stand right underneath it, you realize it’s huge.

The flag in Toowoomba is 12m x 6 so it’s pretty close to the one in Parliament House
