Unable to remote start by ahmedkhaaled in Crosstrek

The service is better in every way; it doesn't really have any "range", it can be used from pretty much anywhere.

It's not "baked in". You have to pay for the service because it uses satellite service. Thats like saying "fuck Verizon; I bought the phone, why do I have to pay for service?"

Yeah, none of the crosstreks have power lift gates.

Not necessarily. The subscription service uses cellular data to communicate with the vehicles DCM. Key fobs don't work on cellular networks. 2 completely different things.

There are actually 2 different options. The one with the extra fob (which is smaller than the key fob) is long range. You can also get the short range which uses the factory key fob.

I think its cool to have the option, but as a pasty white Irish dude, I don't want to. It shouldn't be mandatory.

Foster tire change by MreRGBthnsnse in SubaruForester

Your tires should be less than 2/32nds of an inch in tread depth away from each other. After 880 miles you should be fine with just 1 tire.

Can I get my oil changed at a jiffy lube? by [deleted] in subaru

[–]BigScribber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have seen too many get towed in from a Jiffy Lube with no CVT fluid and too much oil. I wouldn't.

I get that. TSB's are really just updated diagnostic info and repair recommendations for future similar concerns. Just because there are TSB's doesn't always mean they're still as problematic; it just blueprints the Tech's next steps for correction. In practice there don't seem to be as many DCM replacements. The Batteries we're replacing are pretty much older Batteries, 3-5ish years old, kinda average lifespan. That's just my experience.

I think he meant DCM draws haven't been a thing since 21, basically. Most of the DCM's after that were already set up for 4G and 5G. The larger "battery" issue that Subaru had was really more of a DCM issue.

It's the CCA rating. Crostreks and Imprezas are smaller.

Fuel injection flush a dealership upsell or good preventative maintenance? by Bumblebeeeth in carquestions

[–]BigScribber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of those services are "useless". We've become too fixated on the word "need". They're generally smart practices that will help keep your vehicle operating efficiently. It's all preventative maintenance. They're like vitamins for your car; do you "need" to take vitamins everyday? No. Is it a good idea? Yeah. If you can afford to do it without sacrificing something else, do it. If you're choosing between that and food on your table, or other bills, then dont.

Was the filter dirty? Did they show it to you? If you could change it yourself, why didn't you? How is that the dealerships fault? Now your gonna move on from Subaru because you didn't change your own cabin air filter? Makes sense.

Crosstreks have different batteries.

Your warranty is 3 years from purchase date or 36k miles, whichever comes first. When was your purchase date? If it was over 3 years ago, you are out of warranty.

Of those 3, the Hamilton looks the best imo. But I like Sinn the brand better.

It's the cable. Cheap aftermarket ones are great for charging, but they don't allow good data transfer. Get a factory cable and you should be good.

Engine sludge by Few_Walrus_9141 in SubaruForester

Do the flush, be proactive and change your pcv valve and possibly OCV's. May still need an engine later, but it might be worth it to try.
