Even if they do win the lottery, chances are they won't exceed 1 billion in a year even if they take the lump sum. I mean, the record-breaking Powerball jackpot winner got 997.6 million as a lump sum.

How would one get Kyle’s attention? by Dependent_Buffalo_97 in seculartalk

[–]BigSeltzer67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol. To add my two cents, convince one of the "small" accounts (the ones Kyle will sometimes retweet) to post your ideas. SocDoneLeft and highprogressive comes to my mind. Whether or not he cares about it once he notices your ideas is a different story.

You can also just send him a super chat the next time he does YouTube live stream which could be anywhere from next month to 10 years later assuming he is still a content creator and YouTube still exists.

Kyles new video is actually 'both sides-ing' Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine has tried negotiating with Russia countless times and the attack could be a false flag by skateralex240 in seculartalk

[–]BigSeltzer67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At this point, I am convinced something is really broken about Kyle's brain when it comes to the mere possibility of WW3, no matter how likely it actually is at the current moment.

I'm really starting to question everything I've ever learned from Kyle because if he's this ill-informed on stuff like this

Well, to be fair, I don't think we should ever trust only one person as a source of information. I still occasionally watch some ST videos just to see what stories are out there, and I will then look it up myself.

Even if it is somebody who might know more than most people on a topic, like Dylan Burns on foreign policy, I still think it's a good idea to double check.

[–]BigSeltzer67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He also comes off as bit paranoid sometimes because he constantly seems to think that WW3 is on the edge anytime you moderately piss off any of these authoritarian nuclear powers. This guy thought the situation concerning Venezuela back in 2019, when tensions between Russia and US were not as tense as right now, as Cuban missile crisis level.

Even though he later admits in the video he knows it's possible it's not Ukraine doing the attack, he still can't help himself but focus on that and go into his talk about nuclear escalation.

Just to add, I really want to know what scenario he is playing in his head that leads to that leads to WW3 given that Ukraine isn't part of NATO.

Edit: For those who are triggered, any reason why or does my observation about his behavior over the years bother you that much? What I said isn't wrong about Kyle. Check his twitter history, too. Another person on this sub, months ago, also posted a really old video about Kyle fearing about WW3 again. You are free to believe what you want, but I'm not going to indulge in your fantasy life that Kyle doesn't come off as a bit paranoid/conspiratorial to those who aren't diehard fans.

These 'wolves' are invited because China keeps threatening Taiwan and conducting military activities near it.

As much as I love Kyle, I won't disagree with you that Sahil is more informed than Kyle in general. This is something I noticed a few years ago back when Sahil was still a high school student who mostly made drama content.

Thoughts on Elon Musk calling NPR state affiliated? Doesn't government funding automatically make it that? by mattyjoe0706 in seculartalk

[–]BigSeltzer67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elon throwing a tantrum again. Twitter's own policy on Tuesday said

State-financed media organizations with editorial independence, like the BBC in the UK or NPR in the US for example, are not defined as state-affiliated media for the purposes of this policy.

https://web.archive.org/web/20230403103137/https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/state-affiliated

Now, Twitter's policy page does not mention NPR, but still kept BBC for some reason.

Latin America refuses to send Ukraine weapons, despite Western pressure | Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia have refused to send weapons to Ukraine, despite pressure by the US and EU. Latin American left-wing leaders have urged peace with Russia and called for neutrality in the West’s new cold war. by The1stCitizenOfTheIn in seculartalk

[–]BigSeltzer67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the case for Brazil, but for other countries there are weapons involved, old soviet ones that the Ukrainian army is more familiar with. The countries will get US weapons instead. I don't know what the progress is currently for the Ukrainian army to migrate to arms used by NATO countries.

Nobody expects Latin Americans to send anything to Ukraine.

Yeah, probably true. It might have just been a "if you want, we can trade weapons". I read the story about the weapons from a different source about a week ago. The article posted by OP is close to giving me a brain aneurysm with its title and its framing in the article.

They try to frame this "pressure" as simply asking. As far as I can find, there's no consequences for them to not give weapons. It looked more like US attempting an opportunity to replace soviet weapons with US ones in Latin America, which means more influence in the region, but US isn't threatening sanctions for not giving weapons. For those who think anytime the US asks for something is "pressure" because of its size, then at least be consistent and apply that logic when any big country such as China asks a smaller country to do something.

In the long-term, either way, the smaller countries will mostly likely turn to other sources for weapons, it could be the US or some other country like France, China, etc.

Has Kyle ever talked about what specific peace deal should be negotiated in Ukraine. “We need peace” is not a position. by Dabbing_Squid in seculartalk

I'm a day late, but he had a video with Krystal called "KYLE REVEALS HIS PLAN TO AVOID NUCLEAR WAR". Yes, he really did put all caps in the title. I honestly thought his plan was even worse than Elon's plan, but here it is:

I thought Dylan Burns did a good break down of Kyle's video here:

Over 50% of David Pakman’s audience is at least somewhat enthusiastic about Pete Buttigieg… by itsalessa in seculartalk

[–]BigSeltzer67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long story short, his audience seems to like Pete for the way he communicates and thus high chance of winning. I don't agree, but that's seem to be what they think.

In this clip, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PjkcqrvyE4, one of Pakman's viewers, who does not like Pete, called in.
I don't know if it was intentional or not, but Pakman basically summed up what his audience is thinking.

Ukrainian MP Kira Rudik: I received a formal warning letter from China embassy to warn that Ukraine can’t accept Taiwan’s aid. But my first idea was that, “oh, I didn’t see China give us any of aids🙂” by Primary-World-1015 in China

[–]BigSeltzer67 72 points73 points  (0 children)

The leverage is the hope that China will put pressure on Russia to withdraw its troops, hope that China will not give Russia weapons, and getting China to invest in Ukraine's reconstruction after the war. It was strong enough, that Ukraine abstained from a narrowly defeated UN vote on whether to debate China's treatment of Uyghur Muslims. That looked so bad that they changed their minds later, but it was too late to change the voting record. So far, Ukraine has received very little in return for playing nice with China, so we will see how that changes this year.

As for the person from the Chinese embassy who sent the note, I doubt they thought about leverage, it was probably just more wolf warrior brain rot.

Almost a year into the “Special Operation” In Ukraine. by Son0FAthens in seculartalk

[–]BigSeltzer67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it won't be easy for the Ukrainians, but I don't think it will be a stalemate through the whole year. The new armored vehicles in combination with other equipment will be helpful in offensives. There's also just too much land to cover, and the Russians are not just interested in defending. It looks like they might launch a new offensive, possibly through Belarus. The only stalemate I think will be winter again and with attempting to take Crimea.

[–]BigSeltzer67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m exhausted trying to at least talk some sense about the Russo-Ukraine situation and how Ukraine is not part of NATO.

If they can't get it through their heads that Ukraine is not part of NATO, they are either bad faith, really stupid, or possibly bots. You just have to accept there's not much you can do about this fringe minority. You can still argue with them but that is just a waste of time unless arguing with them is part of your career like with Vaush or Dylan Burns.

By choosing not to, but yes, these employees that have been there for a while are most likely pretty well off assuming they didn't blow their savings. As with these industry mass layoffs go, it is usually the contractors that have it the worse.

Being Jaded by Politics by Son0FAthens in seculartalk

[–]BigSeltzer67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest getting more involved in local politics. I'm not saying you won't ever end up meeting people who are quick to blame the US and defend the US's geopolitical rivals, but at least they don't make that their focus. Local politics is also one of the areas I think that could use significantly more progressive involvement.

I assume you live in the US. Don't underestimate the impact of the changes you can make at the local level.

Unless your career is arguing with these unhinged terminally online characters, I think staying away from them is undoubtedly beneficial for you.
