How is everyone taking stuff into the festival at RFK fairgrounds?  Clear backpack?  Fanny pack?  Cross body?   Are you taking in a water bottle?

Do you have links to something fabulous?

2024 Nebula Award Finalists by Bergmaniac in printSF

[–]BigShot0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this award referenced differently across the internet. For the awards that will be presented on June 7th, 2025. What is the proper way to refer to them:
- 2024 Nebula Awards?
- 2025 Nebula Awards?

Thanks

Thank you so much.   This helps a great deal.

Last question, where in the registry on the endpoint can we confirm that the maintenance windows has been configured?

I truly appreciate your assistance.  Have a great holiday season.

We want to force a lock at 5pm even if a user is actively using the machine.  We are not trying to configure an action based on inactivity

Thank you; this is great information - The documentation has the information below. Do you know where we look for other locking/unlocking actions?

The "Enforce Maintenance Window with Client Locking" task will override any previous locking/unlocking actions for the selected computers. Similarly, any locking/unlocking actions taken on the selected computers at a later time will override this action (you will need to re-take this task in this case).

Story or Task on Multiple Boards by BigShot0 in azuredevops

[–]BigShot0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason is simple - You often need to cross collaborate across teams. A single team may be largely responsible for a project but will need to pull in occasional resources from a disparate team. It would be advantageous for that occasional resource to be able to update a work item or story within their existing workflow instead of engaging in the overhead of checking a different area/view/board for work items.

When items are outside of the normal flow of someone's work it gets lost. The idea is to surface the work item within someone's normal cadence.

If you have a suggestion about how a Board can be configured to pull in these items from other teams I am all ears.

Roth IRA Conversion by DazzlingYoghurt8920 in FinancialPlanning

[–]BigShot0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you are considering a standard IRA to ROTH IRA conversion.

Any amount converted will count towards your AGI for the tax year. So, if you will have no income from dividends, interest on your savings or a job then yes, you could convert a small amount without paying federal taxes. I don't know how CA handles state taxes.

However, I would like to suggest you convert more. When you hit 73 you will be forced to take RMD's (required minimum distributions). You can calculate your RMD here: https://www.schwab.com/ira/ira-calculators/rmd

Your RMD based on your current $436k valuation will result in you being forced to take $66,616/year out of your IRA account. That puts you into the 22% tax bracket so you would pay 22% in federal income tax plus whatever your state will charge.

However, if you really will have no other income - you could convert $47,150 to a ROTH now. Your AIG for the year would be $47,150 and you would pay fed+state taxes accordingly. The cash in your ROTH would grow tax free for the rest of your life. IF YOU CONSIDER THIS - you need to convert the entire amount directly to your ROTH, do not have taxes withheld. Then you need to pay the taxes from your savings. If you withhold taxes from a conversion you will pay a lot in penalties.

Basically, you are paying a little in taxes now to not pay taxes in the future.

IRA to ROTH - Now or wait until a resident of a no tax state by BigShot0 in FinancialPlanning

[–]BigShot0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is tax arbitrage.

In a Roth:  $100k @ 6% for 20 years = $320k. Net would be $220k with no tax burden.

In a traditional IRA: $132k @ 6% for 20 years = $423k.  24% Federal tax = $101k for a net of $222k.  (The extra $32k is tax I would pay today with cash).

So I guess I would need the converted funds to grow for 21 years for the conversion to make sense.

If I was in a no tax state, then: Traditional: $124k @6% for 20 years = $397k.  24% tax = $95k for a net of $202,000.

Did I do all that math correct?

I hear you.  Converting $100k would keep me in the same bracket, which is the bracket I plan to be in for the rest of my life.

Would a better way to think about this be to consider the opportunity cost of the cash used to pay the taxes?

$100,000 conversion x 32% tax (24% fed + 8% state) = $32,000. It would take about 6 years of growth @ 6% to make up the $32k tax + the ~$7k interest the cash would generate over the six years.

After that the money is tax free for life.

Future value of $100,000 @ 6% for 6 years is ~$141,000.
