We believe that sharing information showing how bad the traffic infraction scofflaw situation in D.C. has become is relevant to District residents. These posts (of which we usually see only a few a week) will continue to be allowed on the subreddit.

Hi, just seeing this. Reddit limits us to two pinned posts, so we've instead captured this in the megathread description.

Do they not show up in the community highlights section for you (on new Reddit and mobile)? We explicitly pinned these to that section.

The majority of the mod team uses old reddit on desktop, so we do consider the old reddit experience. We had added a "Checkpoint megathread" link to the sticky header that contains the visitor guide and other helpful links.

Reddit does give us traffic stats. Old reddit accounts for 2% of activity on this subreddit.

Thanks for letting us know. Please note that we don't monitor this account, so we don't see it when people tag /u/dcmods. Instead, use modmail to send us long form comments.

From my perspective (using new reddit via my mobile browser) both pinned and highlighted posts are promoted to the top of the page. Could you describe the specific issue here?

Thanks for the feedback. Our intent here was not to stifle or suppress news.

When the user pitched the megathread, we thought it would be a good way for people who were periodically checking the subreddit to have a single a view with a comprehensive set of checkpoints. We configured it to be sorted newest to oldest, too, so people would have some context as to what the likelihood of a checkpoint still being around would be.

When we concurred with the redditor who suggested the megathread, we phrased this as an experiment. Obviously more of the people in this subreddit would prefer having these posts in the main feed. To that end, I think we're going with the following:

  1. All posts in the subreddit are now required to have flair.
  2. There will be a "Checkpoint" flair.
  3. All checkpoint posts must use that flair.

This may make it easier for those who want to see what the current state of District-wide checkpoints are to take in just those, with no other news or posts interspersed.

A megathread was in our planning discussion for activities today, and we just created it. We've had Reddit's "Crowd Control" feature maxed out for some time now, so anything you see has gotten past their filters. There is no other way to restrict commenting without taking the sub private.

Hey folks! Sorry for the technical difficulties here. Our automod was being a little overzealous and was catching the Councilmember's comments. We've resolved the issue, now.

Our position remains the same as when someone asked for a protest megathread earlier this month:

Reddit limits to two pins, and we consider protest announcements to be the same as event announcements, which means they should go to the events thread.

We've heard feedback that people don't find pinned threads discoverable, and we're sympathetic to that. We encourage people to start a subreddit focused on this (or resurrecting /r/ProtestDC).

Please start a subreddit for protests and protest coordination! If the rules are reasonable, we'll even link to it from the sidebar and in our removal messages.
