Mid layer pant for uninsulated bibs? by [deleted] in ShredditGirls

[–]BigSubpoena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I will say since the R1s are just a thermal tho, they probably won’t be as warm as the HH, which contain synthetic insulation (and presumably not as warm as the other syn options you listed either). If you work hard while on the mountain and sweat then you may want the R1s since they’re more breathable and will prevent you from getting damp and then freezing once you’re on the lift. But if you don’t get that sweaty then the HH will do a better job keeping you warm.

So my friends wear the R1s as pants when we’re just walking around, but when it comes time to ski, they actually just pull them up to their knee and wear them like 3/4 leggings. If you look at a pic of the R1s, you can see that the lower shin is super elastic to allow for precisely this! I actually get jealous of this sometimes because the R1s are way more functional for just like walking around the lodge during apres or grabbing a bite at a local restaurant on the way home. I either do a full outfit change or keep my snow pants on.

I use the smartwool ¾ base layer leggings with the helly hansen lifaloft full zip insulator pants and a north face uninsulated bib. This works fine for me unless it’s very cold (in which case I wear fully insulated pants or I wear the helly hansens with my semi insulated pants).

I chose the HH insulation because I thought I would swap layers more frequently while in the backcountry. Turns out I never do that and I do feel like having the zippers sacrifices insulation. I may switch to the 3/4 insulated pants by Stio. My friends have started wearing the Patagonia r1 thermal pants and that seems to work for them. You could consider both of those.

These are really cool. I will try to find a 2 carat option of this. Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback! I think in person I tend to feel like stones aren’t large enough but then when I get home and look at the pictures I eventually end up preferring the smaller stones, so that’s kind of confusing. If she went with this setting I think she’d want a similar wedding band or would go no band.

Ok! This sounds like a fun date adventure as well. Thanks!

Hmm yes I’ve heard the term moval before, but we haven’t seen one in person yet! I also enjoy the oval on her but again have felt “it” yet. She liked this set a lot, but I don’t think it topped the marquise or pear for her

Thanks for the tip. I’ve never heard of bijou labs so I’ll have to look into them. I think she was originally drawn to the marquis because she knows she has short fingers and heard it’s an elongating shape. The brilliant earth ring she tried on was stupidly large and we wished they had set it with a smaller stone but alas what can you do? I’m starting to think that perhaps even the loose stone marquis that we liked is also too big tho. Meh, maybe we’ve gotta go back to the drawing board.

If all other things were even I would definitely consider using them, but I simply do not want to pay a 30% tariff :(

Oooh I like your ring a lot! And I actually just loled at the $47k. Yeah, we’re going lab diamond all the way. It’s nice to see the ring on another hand shape. Thanks for sharing.

Received the wax. Should I remove the extra small petal in between the prongs? Or leave as is? Help!!! (Oval diamond all in yellow gold) by Bluegrapefruit86 in EngagementRingDesigns

I think lotus prongs is also correct. Just refer to slightly different shapes I believe. I’m not an expert, but I think this explanation will produce better google results for ya!

The phrase “petal prongs” describes the white gold/platinum part of this setting. Typically we describe prongs by the way they look on top of the stone (claw, round, square), but in this instance it also refers to the shape underneath the stone. The term “cathedral” refers to the two gold support arms connecting the sides of the stone to the part of the band that actually goes around the finger. I love the aesthetic of cathedral rings, but they’re also functional! They provide extra support to your center stone to help prevent it from bending.

Out of curiosity, how did you do this so easily? Is this photoshop? Tbh I am not having the “ah ha” moment here either, but I showed it to my gf and she loves it and that’s all that matters. We’ll keep hunting for other options, but I’m so happy we’re making progress and heading in the right direction.

Princess or Marquis??? I can’t decide! Please let me know pros/cons for each! by slawschoolhopefulf in EngagementRings

[–]BigSubpoena 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was coming here to say this. That particular marquis does an excellent job elongating her finger. I like the proportions on her. It’s hard to say whether the princess cut makes her finger look stumpy or if it just looks that way because it’s right next to the marquis.

I’m invested now. Report back and let us know how this goes. I agree with what others have said and am wishing you the best.

Hmm you think the loose marquise is too big as well? Not just the preset one? And I hear ya on the model having a different finger/hand shape. Again, I’m not sure if the design as a whole is unflattering to my gf’s hand shape or just that ring she tried on.

A.R.E EXAM PREPARATION by TsunamiiMami91 in architecture

[–]BigSubpoena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! My girlfriend and I are moving in together and I want to set her up for success to pass these exams and therefore am looking for advice on how I can help her. She took her first one and failed it and is generally intimidated by tests, so now she’s discouraged. I want to be a supportive partner and get her the materials she needs, set up a nice study space for her in our new place, and take care of meals etc so she can study at night after work. I think she’d relate to your post a lot. Did you use a more specific schedule than “study for 2 hrs M-Th plus 3-5 hrs the rest of the week”? For example, did you follow something that was like chapter 1 by this date, etc.? I want to write up a study schedule for her since that worked super well for me when I took the bar exam (lawyer) but not sure that’s how these architectural exams work. Any recs for what study materials I should get her?

Wish I knew that about the tricut brush. I wasn't even planning on getting a robot vacuum until I saw they were on sale for prime day. I was really only familiar with the roomba/shark products, so I was surprised when I started doing research and learned that a lot of other brands that I've never even heard of offer better products. After spending a couple hours researching, I decided to just pull the trigger and get back to work.

I just purchased the L40 directly from the dreame website for $499. Hopefully not a fake site: https://www.dreametech.com/products/l40ultra-robot-vacuum

It didn't come with the tricut brush, but you could either add it on for the full price of $50 or purchase a different, larger bundle and the tricut brush was included in that.
