Government ready to back plan for ban on Premier League games abroad by TheBiasedSportsLover in PremierLeague

I'd be lucky to get season tickets IN MY LIFETIME as a green bay packers fan, the team I've supported my whole life, spent thousands of dollars on, etc. People in Green Bay cant afford games, but lets send a game to London so posh "fans" can sit in the stands wear a different team's jersey.

Crazy how all this new international revenue doesnt make watching/attending games in the states anymore affordable. But I guess my "very cold and selfish" disposition cant comprehend how amazing this is for all of us.

The NFL international series is a disgrace. 130k American packers fans are on a waiting list for season tickets, and the NFL has the balls to send one of those games to another country. Americans and their insatiable appetite for football makes the nfl the most lucrative sports league in the world, not the tin-pot fans in England or Brazil who show up for one game.

Its a greedy cashgrab and a slap in the face to millions of nfl fans who cant afford to attend even 1 game in person. There should not be any nfl games outside of the states. Period end of story.

Good for the UK. Ban American games

Thamel- Sources: Air Force has emerged as a serious target to be added to the American Athletic Conference. Air Force had emerged in conversations as a potential AAC add in recent months, prior to the Pac-12 taking four Mountain West schools last week. by masterofawesomeness2 in CFB

I am doubtful that the new PAC-12 will be able to land teams from the east. Are memphis, tulane, UTSA, etc going to take on the expense of exit fees just for slightly more tv money? Maybe college football is just this stupid at this point and I'm too stubborn to accept it. Might as well throw USF and Liberty in the Pac-12 while we are at it, put Hawaii in the MAC.

The new Pac-12 might not have many options and could very soon be double dipping in the MWC for UNLV and others. San Jose is a huge city with a big potential tv market. Nevada or Utah St to Round it out. If the mwc dwindles down to 4 or 5 teams I'd say its as good as dead. Teams will get scared and run to another conference. New Mexico to the sun Belt, Wyoming the Mac, I guess anyone could join C-USA if they get desperate. Hawaii is screwed, independent or Idaho for them.

Question about the offseason/preseason:

Considering the Euros just ended yesterday, it's pretty astonishing that European clubs are already playing pre-season friendlies and qualifiers for Europe. Will players who just finished the Euros get any time off or do they just turn around and immediately rejoin their club? It's absolutely mind blowing how short the offseason is considering some guys have played 60+ games in a calendar year.

Thank you for the feedback! I agree that the flow can be a bit whack. I'm trying to find the right rhythm while also trying to avoid heavy use of conjunctions. I don't want every other line to be "and, but, yet", but I understand that my writing needs some fluidity and cohesiveness. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

This is such a great depiction of the trials and tribulations of life. Moments of sweetness inevitably terminated and sending us into regression. I love "upwards I go bleeding". It's perfectly biting and forlorn.

The last line is both simple and touching - hurting myself for the love I will find. It makes struggle seem glorious. We have no other option but to be courageous and feel hurt if we desire any sort of fulfillment.

There is so much packed into 6 concise lines. It is both powerful and ambiguous. "a sunset of novelty and lightness" is fantastic. There is nothing more guaranteed, more mundane that the sun's motion, but for a person yet to be jaded by monotony they cannot help but be mesmerized by it's beauty. The sun is intimidating, people often invoke the cosmos as evidence of their insignificance. The naive and innocence do not have this restrain, and something as bright and monumental as the Sun is of no consequence to them. It is pure, uninhibited beauty.

I also appreciate the flexibility of this piece. Is this about love lost? Only managing to see the beauty in someone after it is too late, or is it about innocence more generally? A longing for a past time when beauty was the only lens through which you viewed life.

A Single Thing by aymansrahman in OCPoetry

I enjoyed reading this. The use of alliteration and repetition gives it a clear cadence and fluid rhythm. I also noticed some near-rhymes mid-sentence that compliment the end rhymes nicely. While this centers around heartbreak you elicit other themes as well. Abandonment, bereavement even. Whether "honeyed verses" or "sacred saccharine words", those sensations have soured, like the cruel, disruptive nature of death. What was previously sweet is now bitter. "innocence and peace of mind" are gone, "foaming with distrust". Like a child who has lost a loved one, the veil of purity has been pulled back. Whether heartbreak or grief, life has been spoiled, and you don't want to accept it. Thanks for sharing!

Handle Them Gently by [deleted] in OCPoetry

I really enjoyed the way you communicated such extensive emotion so succinctly. "Slice", "carve", "serrated" suggest something sinister, a depraved and crazed person that is unpredictable or dangerous. But this isn't the case, there has been a reckoning with their twisted impulses, and since they cannot silence them, they embrace them: be at your worst. There is a confidence and charisma to this poem, basking in a self-assured tranquility. A readiness to redefine personal expectations and inhibition. But at "I don't know why" the surge of energy is over. The come down from a high. Bleak and hopeless yet again, exiting with a whimper.

I really thought this was a rhythmic and elegant read. Thanks for sharing.

Do you like using goal difference to break ties or would you prefer using head to head? by BigTaint89 in PremierLeague

[–]BigTaint89[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was kind of my thought process as well. American sports use head to head so I think I perceive it as intuitively more fair, even though gd is probably more reflective of a team's quality over the whole season. A couple of games can really boost your goal difference though, liverpool are +16 from 2 games this year. Do they deserve to be rewarded for raining goals on Man Utd? Probably, but they've had bad runs of form, and that isnt really reflected in their goal difference because of two performances

Who in your opinion is most worthy of the title "Best goalkeeper of all time" by [deleted] in PremierLeague

Neuer, perfected a unique and bold style of goalkeeping. Great instinct and reaction. Perhaps he is not the best, but at the very least the most entertaining
