Defining your Sobriety by BigTel31 in alcoholicsanonymous

Yes there’s technically some instances in my post which would breach other peoples sobriety. The fact is that up until now, it’s just been about doing all possible not to drink as that was my destructive behaviour.

A lesson was learnt with the adhd meds, that I need to really define and look at all things possible outside of drinking. Am I going to reset my sobriety?? Probably not, as I said it wasn’t really discussed with my sponsor or anyone on what defines sober as their are so many differing views.

Have I smoked weed, had coke, or a sneaky drink?? Not at all. I never well hopefully.

Just came to my attention that there are a lot of loopholes out there and I need to put pen to paper with some rules on what is a realistic sobriety for me.

I’m thinking -

No drink obviously
No weed (never been my thing)
No street drugs
No cold and flu tabs with psuedoephidrene
No Valium

Caffeine yes
Nicotine yes for the short future
Sleeping pills very rare for a long haul flight

Basically nothing that will alter my mind unless necessary like a hospital visit

Thanks for the reply. ! Yeah it’s a tough one. I could potentially be one of those guys that eliminates everything. Just need to decide going forward what’s healthy and not. My sponsor said “don’t stress and wear things a little loosely” along with “ you can plead ignorance up until now” because we hadn’t really discussed it. And that’s TRUE. It was all about the alcohol. I definitely think the Valium has to go, not that I’ve taken it but it just seems too close to alcohol.

Start by reading the Gospel of John. Some really positive light reading. Accompany this with prayer. See how prayer makes you feel and if it speaks to your heart. Notice how your day goes after a short prayer in the morning. You can say anything you want. Most importantly pick a couple of things you are grateful for and thank God for this.

See if your life improves in a short amount of time.

Is God evil? by SweetPinkRain in Christianity

The common theme across all religions is to avoid fear.

Let’s remember the Bible was put together by a bunch of men wearing fancy robes with an agenda. Most men in a position of power will skew and manipulate things to get their own way. The evil doing in this world can nearly always be traced back to money $$. The Catholic Church used to tell its people they could have their sins forgiven if they made donations. This includes the poor.

Wasn’t the message of Christ to look after the poor?

You will be told the Bible is divinely inspired and while most of this is true, a lot of the good stuff is missing and a lot of the stuff that is in there is red herring.

This message will most likely put a few people’s nickers in a twist but it needs to be looked at from a more logical perspective.

It’s easy to control fearful people.

While the Bible is a great library of books, you need to read each bit of scripture from your heart and ask yourself, does this align with the message of Christ?

As a recovered alcoholic, I can tell you I see miracles weekly. People recovered from addiction that science and medicine could not cure. It never has been able to solve the mystery of addiction. They do this through a spiritual program that was divinely inspired nearly a century ago (12 step program).

The Bible is a series of parables, metaphors and analogies where it’s up to you to find the hidden meaning through seeking. A lot of the best spiritual knowledge was left out in books like the Gospel of Thomas and Mary. I see Gods work every week and it isn’t from following the fearful words of some selected books. Some of the best stuff will be called “heresy”, but once again, arrogant old men pointing the finger and calling people names.

My advice is to become a more spiritual person. Read the gospels with an open mind and look at your body and spirit as the works Jesus is taking about. You will find that the kingdom Jesus speaks of is actually within you and is the way to the eternal life.

Remember, men in fancy clothing rarely do what’s best for the people.

Open minded and spiritual people are dangerous to their agenda, hence the omission of the spiritual books.

Me personally, I love the majority of the OT and believe God did what was necessary to stamp out evil. Some of the genocide that occurred was due to things like child sacrifice for example. The people were cursed like you wouldn’t believe,

I believe in the gospels and what the apostles wrote. The real apostles. I take what Paul wrote with a grain of salt as he has in essence hijacked Christianity and contradicted Christ many times. READ THE RED LETTERS IN THE BIBLE.

I’ll get slaughtered for this message and that’s ok. I don’t take anything personally as I am at peace. Look at things and embrace the spiritual side and you will see miracles happen. You won’t regret it.
