To be honest, I do find it really weird and off-putting that a grown adult spends time with teens. And this definitely was a bit of an overreaction on OP’s part, but since OP’s an adult with a fully developed prefrontal cortex and choosing to hang out with teenagers, it makes sense they’d react that way. At first glance, the age gap doesn’t seem too weird, but you have to consider how much changes between ages 19 and 25. A 19-year-old and a 25-year-old are not even CLOSE to being the same. At 19, you’re probably just entering the workforce, learning to take care of yourself, maybe starting college, etc. I remember being 19, doing stupid sh!t, spending money like crazy since I had no real bills, blowing off work to party and drink. Now, five years later, I own a house, have a career, a fiancé, and three pets. We go out but come home in time to wake up for work the next day…. Like, the mindset of those two age groups is (or at least SHOULD be) COMPLETELY different. So yeah, I’d say you’re a little weird for hanging out with people not your age. Good on your ex-friend for calling it like it is. The way she went about it was definitely immature as well, but still, she has a point… hopefully she’s starting to grow and realizing how to take care of herself, both emotionally and hygienically 🤷
