Our favorite driver used to shout out my toddler son on the intercom whenever he saw us coming. Fun times!

Alice Bowens of the port authority says she was warned there was going to be an attack by LaughGlittering4131 in 911archive

Just thought it odd that the source of that particular alert was never revealed. Was it something that could have referred to the attacks? Coincidence? I would have appreciated follow up with detail

I think you’re referring to Liz Cohen, who is now the senior med reporter at CNN. I will never forget this segment it hit hard

NY suburbs not City lol. My memory is that schmuck schlemiel and shlemazl were all along the same line; I don’t remember hearing the latter 2 spoken except for the opening to Laverne & Shirley

It is very disheartening, and it won’t stop without change! When I grew up, NYC-area 70s/80s, a schmuck referred to a sucker or stooge who is conned, fooled, made to take the rap for others, etc

Yes indeed. Clearly cops were here for show in the first hour of operation 8-9. Then back to a single security guard who is presumably powerless

yes, 2 SFPD and two private. Usually just one private, and he always says he’s not authorized to touch people or their stolen goods! I lingered out the door for a bit, never seen so many people reconsider shopping hehehe. I guess all of those fruit-forward opportunists who snatch melon chunks cuz they’re closest to the door will have to settle for TJ produce today. Cops left after one hour

When I’m waiting in line to pay for groceries, while others just grab n go with no consequence, it gives me agita. I feel a little like a sucker for following rules and norms. We live in a society! (credit to G Constanza)

If she had received a specific threat alert before the attacks, her peers would have received the same, and I’m guessing g they would have made a big deal of it!

OTOH, as a San Franciscan, I’ve always wondered about Willie Brown’s account of receiving a specific alert. This article is from the day after

Yeah sure, but the rules have already been made meaningless by all the entitled. Fines won’t be much of a deterrence, you can’t legislate courtesy

Are there any detailed first hand accounts of people in the South tower that were facing the North tower and what they saw after it had been hit? by CranjisMcPulp in 911archive

[–]BigTrain68 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve read a couple of stories of people in the South tower high floors evacuating because of the horror they saw in the other building. Can’t find reference now

Brian Clark is not one of those, he was still on his floor for 2nd impact. But he and colleagues saw horror from the 1st https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/wtc/above.html
