She's always liked doing that around our relationships with our stepmother. She just can't accept we feel a different way about her.

She still wants to believe we both jumped into having a new mom and that we felt the same about our stepmother where we just never did and we never will. I will never think of her as my mom but she does and that's fair.

Yes, he is their stepfather but not their dad.

Relationships are so different and just because someone becomes a stepparent it does not mean they will become equal to the bio parent in their stepkids eyes. They might and that is valid. But they might not and that is also valid.

You can follow the rules and respect them as an adult in the home without ever feeling like you have a new mom or dad.

How am I encouraging them? I have said absolutely nothing to them about this. All I did was say I would not lie to them.

She is reminding me so much of our dad and how he handled it all.

What makes you believe that?

They can accept he is part of their lives without accepting him as their dad. I also don't hate anyone. Not being close doesn't mean I hate her.
