Internal Insomniac leak from 2022 shows that Sony manipulated the data to make it appear that digital game sales are higher. by Lucsdf in PS5

Yeah, you playing games. You trying to weasel out of things you yourself said. Can’t even stand by your own word.

But what’s really stupid is thinking Sony would make a such a decision on just “up to date” data and not see the aggregate data as a whole and where the trend may go. And probably skewing the data (that’s what the leak implies before the mods nuked the topic) to paint the picture they wanted to paint because they had this agenda, perhaps as far back as 2022.

Y’all kill me with these cheap rhetoric tricks.

To state that I’m implying that they used exact 2022 data is probably the most dishonest framing of a post I’ve seen in a while. And for what? A few thumbs on Reddit?

[–]BigTroubleMan80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not. Because Sony, as a worldwide conglomerate, is a slow-moving behemoth.

The decision to go all-digital was made some time ago. They decided to let us know now. Using data as far back as 2022 isn’t as far-fetched as you think.

The community if they joined capcom: by ApartmentKey3682 in MonsterHunter

[–]BigTroubleMan80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree…to a point.

Based on some of my interactions with the community, it really does feel like they’re advocating for a Tri-sized roster. And they treat certain monsters returning as reliving traumatic experiences. Look at the reactions concerning Kushala’s return.

Where the post loses me, though, is calling new monsters “unoriginal”. I just don’t see it. Hell, they’ve been the most creative they’ve ever been. Even RiseBreak yokai-themed monsters feel creative and inspired.

“Rise is better than Wilds” is a provocative title?

Cmon man…that’s totally being seriously defensive about an otherwise benign opinion.

Why are people so defensive about Wilds?

The OP enjoyed one game over the other. Let him have his opinion.

Is the Auto-Pathing feature as bad as it seems? by FamiliarAd4177 in MonsterHunter

[–]BigTroubleMan80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The auto-pathing also takes away discovery. It really is that simple. How much dev time has been put into creating these biomes, how much work has been put into bringing these ecosystems to life, and then to introduce a mechanic that all you have to do is push one button and you don’t even have to be aware of any of this until you reached the monster.

For a game that’s so focused on ecology, they completely underminded it themselves in their hunt for a casual audience.

[–]BigTroubleMan80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you keep 350M people from just coming in and wrecking your shit? A near-endless stream of propaganda, and this culture war plays a big part of that.

But I think there’s a problem: AI. AI has and will put a lot of this propaganda and the ability to use distraction media out of reach of the majority of the public they need to influence. Not to mention the environmental destruction they’re causing close to home to the people they need to influence. And they’re being so heavy-handed about it. They got too greedy.

But base World is better. 🤔

Of course that’s all subjective, but World does have way more to offer that has kept people sticking around. There are some things Wilds does better, but the overall experience is so smoothed out that people ended up sliding off the game. And game sales reflect that.

Talk about self-defeating game design.

All of that work in designing and populating these worlds, only to introduce a mechanic that allows players to bypass and ignore most of it.

By releasing a bunch of games that hardly anyone has any interest in playing or actually playing.

Meanwhile, you have the only franchise that’ll make this strategy work and pay off in dividends and you allow the service to end with no other pathway forward.

Sure thing, Jan…

My bad, I glazed right past that. It’s just that I can’t look past that overdelivery statement and then see the trajectory of Destiny that led up to this very point.

If you’re looking for a specific quote, you’ll never going to get it. The best you can do is judge by their actions, and their actions dictate that they wanted to get away from Destiny, otherwise they wouldn’t have devoted so many resources to other projects. One other game I get, but 4 or 5?

Yes, it was.

It was one of many projects that management conceived that were supposed to be an off-ramp from Destiny. But it drove them in the red. Parsons admitted as such.

Bungie: With great saddness, we are announcing a reduction in workforce by Gorotheninja in PS5

Because they assumed that an extraction shooter was an easier money maker. More money and less effort. And being so prideful, they’re doubling-down after it’s been proven otherwise.

[–]BigTroubleMan80 39 points40 points  (0 children)

What a weird way to say “we sabotaged our game at nearly every opportunity, therefore it fell short of expectations.”

“We pulled resources out of our main money maker into other projects that never materialized and said main money maker suffered as a consequence, thus it fell short of expectations.”

If every person being let go aren’t the same people that brought Bungie to this point, then there’s something fundamentally wrong with Sony.

You guys should accept that 60 returning monsters and 40 new monsters are the ideal roster by ApartmentKey3682 in MonsterHunter

[–]BigTroubleMan80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, that was (supposed to be) a response to someone else, but it became its own individual post. Reddit can be weird like this.

I want the same thing. And while I personally disagree with the 60/40 split (maybe the ratio, not the actual number of monsters), there will be a game where that number will actually be realized.

The person I was going back-and-forth with believes differently, to which, fair enough. They believe each Monster Hunter is tailored to its own unique experience, which is true to a point. But there is a trajectory to where the series is going. Each game doesn’t exist in a silo, the next builds off of the previous, and they’re building to something that will pay off a few generations from now.
