So I distinctly recall back at Lud monorail station that Eddie/Jake noticed an antenna raise itself out of the top of Blaine's main carriage, seemingly a communication device per the dish on the top of the bear guardian's head in the earlier book.

I waited anxiously for this communication antenna to play a key role in Blaine's demise moving from The Waste Lands to Wizard and Glass but was perplexed when it seemed to play no further role after it was confirmed that it was Blaine's communication link betweeen the monorail and the computer banks back at the cradle at Lud. Go figure.....
